my thoughts on this....

1. the july 7th bombers would have had ID cards that would have matched their true identity. Didnt stop them did it?

2. A terrorist could spend a year in a training camp, then come over here, get an ID card as an asylum seeker, then kaboom anyway.

3. Seems like a pointless waste of time that makes it look like the govt are doing something but are not making a jot of difference.

4. All this talk of cost.... do you think the govt is paying that? Nope - it will be you and me at 90 odd quid a time.

5. I have a 46 quid passport that proves who I am. WTF do I need an ID card for?

I agree Steve, I had one in the forces and it made perfect sence, as I had to gain access to military instalations. Can't see the point of one for a civvy, it would prove nothing, and what would you want one for, typical government waste of OUR money.

Hah! We bloody wish!

The London School of Economics (the extremely well respected body that when it's to their advantage the government listens to/quotes) has recently revised their figures to say it will cost:

£500 per person in the country!

Whether that's through a direct cost which you're forced to pay when you get the card or disguised by most of it being through taxation I don't know.
Either way I'm not paying 2 Locosts for a bit of plastic that is a major intrusion into my privacy and civil liberties!!!


What I do consider interesting is the suggestion the government may sell off sections of the database to interested parties. I don't know how much people here enjoy getting junk mail but imagine the power at certain global corporates disposal if they had access to you biometric identity!

Stella Rimmington(former boss of MI5) made a statement yesterday that she thought they would too easy to forge and would not fight terrorism.... and she should know!

I agree... but this is NOT just about terrorism... thats the Hype to get it through and into service.

Its about Benefit Fraud. No card.. No benefits. Benefit fraud is already costing the taxpayer a small fortune. AND a WHOLE BUNCH of OTHER things it will help spot.

You can bet your bottom dollar there are a LOT of reasons they want this brought in... and not many to do with Terrorism... Thats the scare tactic to get the public to agree.

They will want DNA and all sorts.. Remember that some crimes are being solved 30 years on from the DNA collected at the time which could not be processed than but can now.

Get Everyones DNA on the database and you will solve a LOT of crimes... they only have HALF the solution at the moment... ie the DNA from the Crimescene... and nont mutch to match it against... ie a small database.
Get the entire countries DNA, and they can solve more crimes.. and make their stats look better.

Its not just about the cards and terrorism, its a WHOLE LOT MORE behind it. The above is just a couple of examples... but its goes deeper and wider than this.

I will give you anothe example of the Gov't ways...

After Dunblane the subsequent BAN on firearms came into play.
I saw a draft copy of the document and it was dated about 20 years BEFORE... ie it had been gathering dust in some store until it was needed. It was rushed through and it wiped out 2,500 businesses, and took away 38,000 law abiding citizens hobby. Only ONE of which had broke the law.

Now about ten years on ie NOW...
Has it reduced Gun Crime and gun related murders?? I dont need to ask for replies.. We all know it hasnt made a scarap of difference.

I believe that ID cards will have the same effect.. people will still slip in and out of the country... You can do it in a wooden rowing boat of you are strong enough!!.

Those that dont want to be identified will still take measures not to be identified.
If they live here... they will eventually be identified.. just like the London bombers.. took just 4 days (probably with a JFDI from the top!)

Its all a CON so the Gov't can track and trace everyone..

Its becoming a Police State under electronic surveilance.

Take the Latest measure... Cameras that can read number Plates are now looking them up on an insurance database and sending out fines.. Just as you have continuous Tax (and SORN) they are bringin in a new law for Continuous Insurance, and automatic fines like the tax.
