Allow me to introduce myself....
spunky - 21/3/05 at 09:16 AM

Some time ago I was asking silly questions about diffs and GRP moulding, well this was the reason...
The big fella was completed for a new year fancy dress party and performed beatifully as I drove him into town with the Dr Who theme playing on the on board sound system. Actually had a copper pull up and shout somthing at me. I just flicked on the 'headlamp' and 'hazards' (ears are fitted with strobes) explained that world domination cannot wait and trundled off!
Anyway he has to be sold 'cos he takes up a lot of room and he is even less pactical than the kit car. err OK thats not true, has about the same range and you stay dry in the Dalek.
Going onto Ebay and try and cash in on the new series hype.

FANTASTIC!!

I bet that earns a fortune!

Peteff - 21/3/05 at 10:10 AM

I'll start it off at a tenner, that's saying something 'cos I'm a tight git.

scoobyis2cool - 21/3/05 at 11:43 AM

You should hire that out for events, I bet you'd make a packet! Really impressive!

Pete

Triton - 21/3/05 at 12:50 PM

Thats's cool i want one

spunky - 21/3/05 at 01:08 PM

Here's the listing ( he says shamelessly promoting his item)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6520367361&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

Took bloody ages to do the description and I've just checked it and found a spelling mistake

John

Peteff - 21/3/05 at 01:24 PM

I've bid £11 on it. What's the range in case it has to be driven home?
edit :- I just wanted to see "you are currently the high bidder" on it.

[Edited on 21/3/05 by Peteff]

spunky - 21/3/05 at 01:29 PM

Hey Pete,
Your bid is a contract, if no-one else bids how you gonna explain to the missus that you have bought a Dalek

John

Should make it to your place with a charging stop in Mansfield....

ned - 21/3/05 at 01:41 PM

Sorry Pete and Ned, I bid £200 and have just been outbid

Clive

Peteff - 21/3/05 at 03:01 PM

It's still in my watching section, I'll keep an eye on it. If it keeps going up like this you'll be able to pay someone to do your next years costume.

Peteff - 21/3/05 at 11:13 PM

I'm going Dalek building. It's £600 now . Good luck mate, if it keeps going at this rate you'll be able to retire.

stephen_gusterson - 21/3/05 at 11:26 PM

contact the bbc web site or your local bbc radio or tv station.

they would love to run a story on it - it promotes their series, and your value would leap up

JoelP - 21/3/05 at 11:29 PM

thats a cracking idea steve... it'd end up on bbc news 24!

flyingkiwi - 22/3/05 at 12:11 AM

Especially with all the Dr Who malarky going on, cannot watch bbc 2 at the mo without some form of Dr Who invading. They making a new film or something??

stephen_gusterson - 22/3/05 at 07:45 PM

i have emailed radio 5 news program about it and posted the link to them. perhaps they might pick it up........

drive@bbc.co.uk

why dont we all email them to get attention?

I don't think the BBC will be pleased , they'll want royalties.
The latest copy of the Radio Times is full of ads. for Dr. Who merchandise.

Tim 45 - 22/3/05 at 08:53 PM

Did you ever expect it to go for this price, and with five days to go...

Looks like the next cars on the highest bidder

i doubt they would be that pedantic - its all good advertising! anyway, the BBC dont own the rights to the darleks - there was some discussion that they couldnt use them cos they belonged to the estate of terry nation.

Thanks for the promo work Mr Gusto,
It was mentioned on Radio 2....

76 watchers and an off auction offer of £1000.

Strange really since I only built it 'cos I'd finished the car and wanted a small project to keep me interested and I had aquired a moblity scooter. Returns a better profit percentage than Locosts

Didn't expect this sort of response at all, but not complaining, nice for a hobby not to cost you money.

It's an invasion, run for your lives... well walk briskly to some stairs should do

I liked his description:
"I have also re-designed the neck so that it angles inward like a cone, "
Translation....
"I screwed up my measurements"

Nice hinged skirt though

John

Northy - 24/3/05 at 08:04 PM

Chris Moyles had Billy Piper on yesterday talking about Dr Who. He mentioned he'd love to go to the pub in a Darlek so I emailed hime the link to yours, he didn't mention it though

I tried.....

spunky - 25/3/05 at 12:14 AM

Offer of £2000 which I really can't take seriously (I've never spent that on a car)

Another guy wants to commission me to build another for him if he doesn't win.

Are some of you Locosters pulling my chain... or has this country gone insane

John

Peteff - 25/3/05 at 12:26 AM

Build yourself a Dalek for £*** and flog it on ebay. Got to be a winner.

JoelP - 25/3/05 at 12:35 AM

those other daleks are crap, no running gear - i guess yours will end at more than 2k by the end.

flak monkey - 25/3/05 at 09:26 AM

Its upto nearly £1500 with 3 days to go

John,

There is a company selling non-functional Dalek's for £2k so yours must be worth at least that.
All bidders seem genuine so far but be prepared to delete any muppet bids.

I have spoken to Astonmartin1974, He was the guy that wanted to commission me to build one for him if he doesn't win. I quickly turned the conversation away from Daleks to cars and as part payment he offered me his car for the summer. Fully insured and ready to go.

Classic V8 Vantage.... And I believe he was being serious

Wow some paypal fee

Joel (off to download the plans)

spunky - 28/3/05 at 01:08 PM

WTF

Now I would assume every member of this forum is a practical guy who can use a jigsaw, router, drill etc. Anyone building or considering building a car can whip up a bloody Dalek in a few evenings....
Lets see if the payment materialises though the second highest bidder actually came over yesterday to see him so I guess that one is genuine...

Unbelieveable......

John

Peteff - 28/3/05 at 01:40 PM

My £11's here ready and waiting.(first bidder) . Best of luck mate.

stephen_gusterson - 28/3/05 at 04:14 PM

im really pleased for you!

However, i think this is a thing of the moment.

If you put it up in a month, I dont recon it would do half as well.

still, thats 1500 quid if taken literally!
