Ok if you had £2500 to spend on a 2 seat convertible that was small enough to fit a med sized garage and it has to be road legal...(No SVA!!) what would you buy?

dutton s3, use the change to max power it! well, not quite max, but certainly beef it up a bit, and give it a polish! its not as ugly as everyone makes out.

Ahhh someone else who doesn't mind the dutton! Good value for money i'd say. Theres a nice one on Ebay with a 2.1 pinto in it! Theres also a V8 one on there too!!!!!!!!

Chevy Camaro. OK so its not exactly a 2 seater (its got 4 but I wouldnt want to use the back ones!), and its t-top... but they cost around £2.5k. Got to love that V8... I know a guy who had one that had been tweaked a bit. Sounded real sweet

Alternatively how about an old Jag? (again a 2+2 rather than a 2 seater)

that v8 just shouts BUY ME!! a lot of car for not much money.

im thinking of buying a dutton front end to use on the front of mine, to get it through SVA easily. covers all the exposed areas.

would have another spitfire, though I only paid £250 for the last one in the mid 80's, cheap parts easy maintenance fun car, wouldn't try to go too fast in one though, mind you after hitting a lamp post hard enough to push the radiator back into the engine shortening the car by a good foot and a half, I unclipped the seatbelt and stepped out.

I always saw Spitfires and rust buckets! I hada friend with one once and it was yummy, but rusty. Another friend had one for 2 years and in that short time it disintegrated before his very eyes!!

A mk1 Toyota MR2 or a Mazda MX5 ?

Or dare I suggest a Fiat X19 ? (if you can find one)

For £2000 you can get a really nice low milage T-bar Mk1 MR2 and Mk2's are not much more, infact Mk2's are bloomin cheap!

Fiat Barchetta? I know it fwd but you'll never know a 1.6 mx5 was a rwd car... could barely tell with a 1.8 (zzzzzzzzz).

TR7? Drop a v8 in it and off you go.

If you don't mind a t-top like an mr2 (very very slow ime) you could possibly get a 300zx.

Not much money for a cab unless you like astras or escorts.

of the MR2's go for a MK1. Less 'chav' value than the MK2 and a better drivers car as well IMHO.

MX5's are good also, but preferably with a Mustang lump in it.

If you do fancy a MK1, let me know as we're local and I can give you some pointers on what to look for.

Just found an almost finished project in my auto rag i get for £2500 with lots of frogeye memorabilia thrown in,1959 car with original 948 engine on carbs.

I would dearly love a Frog Eye Sprite but the pedals are too close together as my right foot completely covers both the brake and accelerator pedals so i would be going nowhere fast...literally!!

There is a girl up my road who has got a restored one and she let me sit in it. Very nice but as i said the pedals were too close together. Even customising the pedal layout would not work.

I think the MX-5 Mk1 looks a little like a Frogeye Sprite...if you squint!!
