As a follow up to my £75 Mazda 626, I've just bought a 1995 BMW 525 SE (with Vanos) . Full SH, lots of buttons, manual.

It drives like a dream. 180K on the clock (genuine as I know both previous owners) taxed and MOT'd until May.

Goes nicely and have driven up the local hill with the back end out in third.

£400.

I'm having a smug moment

Neil.

I would be smug as well.
A 5 series is a very fine thing indeed.

Especially at 400 notes.

Enjoy

Wow, at that price you may as well buy another and drop the engine into your kit car! What sort of power do they produce?

It's 192bhp. 5th gear is superbly flexible. From trundle to rumble there's no complaints.

It replaces a considerably more expensive (and newer) 2.5 Vauxhall Omega that was stolen. The build, smoothness, torque, handling and fantastic wail of the straight six show the Vauxhall up for the pile-o-shite that it was.

Climate control too

The engine (M50) is iron though and probably weighs more than a brace of BEC's. Is there a collective noun for BEC's? http://www.bmwworld.com/engines/m50.htm

Cheers,

Neil.

remember

many people on this forum dont like beemer owners!

180k on an engine is pretty impressive - perhaps thats one of the reasons beemer generally go for daft prices with high milages - 100k 3 series at over 9k when 5 years old isnt uncommon
