I recall this fairly simple design -

Could this be what you had in mind?

Plenty of el cheapo Chinese tiny capacity gas engines designed for mounting on almost anything these days.

I had a petrol powered skate board a few years ago, it was about the size of a snow board, it was the most dangerous thing I've ever been on. I suppose it would get up to about 20mph maybe a bit more depending on weight of the person and if you fell off you knew about it! Needless to say I got rid of it.

I have one if you want some close up photos of how it works? It's all pretty simple tbh.

I built this about 4 years ago.

linker to thread

It's still going stong, I use it every weekend and have done a fair few thousand miles on it. Just the magneto has been replaced so far. Top speed is 66 kph going down a hill and 40 kph on the flat.

I think they have an outlet in the UK.

What's the legal position on them? Aren't they just a moped in effect and therefore subject to the same rules?

ChrisW - 30/4/15 at 03:22 PM

Gopeds or those bikes? Gopeds are certainly not road legal unfortunately.

Actually it would be easier to get my mobility scooter 'on the road' - all it needs to be legal is a device to prevent it going over 8mph. Shame though that you have to be registered disabled to use it.
