Especially the price you paid

Mk-Ninja - 20/11/04 at 03:15 PM

Cant help with the make, but it looks like a great project.

Metal Hippy - 20/11/04 at 03:18 PM

You got a side view of it?

The front of it is fantastic.... Not so sure about the rear... Just wondered on the profile..

Mad Dave - 20/11/04 at 03:24 PM

I only have these pics of the body and a couple of the inside.

I will take more pics and post them in a few days

Mad Dave - 20/11/04 at 03:28 PM

Put a couple more pics in my archive, interior and the engine. I have been told the engine is from a triumph herald. As you can see it needs a little attention!

Peteff - 20/11/04 at 04:12 PM

The shape looks like a Sunbeam Alpine with the rear fins. They were nice cars in their day.

swood - 20/11/04 at 05:21 PM

Think it may be a Fairthorpe of which I've seen hard & soft tops, or possibly a Rochdale, but never seen a soft top Rochdale.
Both used mainly Ford running gear, circa early to mid 60's.
Its a nice piece of kit car history and in saveable condition - lucky man.

Em_G - 20/11/04 at 05:41 PM

Looks like a Rochdale.Would expected it to have an old ford engine though.Nothing better than a free car!

splitrivet - 20/11/04 at 06:01 PM

Looks Rochdale to me in saying that there were loads of kitcars back in the 60's that looked similar with that e type sort of front end.

Not that I'd know of course being so young, but me dad told me.

Your a jammy sod whatever it is.

Cheers,
Bob

bob - 20/11/04 at 07:31 PM

It does have a look of a triumph tr4s which is rare in its self, nice i must admit.

wilkingj - 20/11/04 at 07:35 PM

That looks like a Tax disc in the window... whats that say?.

alister667 - 20/11/04 at 10:18 PM

Bang an R1 in there and you've got some great looking, scary quick, kit-car history!!!!

God I'm such a philistine!

Metal Hippy - 20/11/04 at 10:58 PM

It'd be so heavy that you may as well take out the floor and do a Flintstones as fit a bike engine...

rusty nuts - 21/11/04 at 10:49 AM

Didn't someone once post a link to a website ,possibly an A.A site , that allowed you to enter a registration number and if it was still listed on D.V.L.A.records it would give details of car?? May be worth a search?? Rusty

midlifecrisis - 21/11/04 at 10:55 AM

Dont know the car,but those front indicators are austin/morris 1100!

bob - 21/11/04 at 11:03 AM

Just tried the RAC registration search and no matches came back,ho hum

Mad Dave - 21/11/04 at 11:12 AM

It looks similar to this car. I think this is a Fairthorpe

What do you think?

Dave,

Might be an old Falcon Carribean. Check out the chassis. Id it made from round tubing, approx. 30-35mm dia.? If so, it could be a Buckler chassis.

Mad Dave - 21/11/04 at 09:50 PM

Been told it is a TWM (Tim Wren Motors) but can't find any info about it

Dick Axtell - 21/11/04 at 09:53 PM

Must be in the Rockin' 'Orse s**te category, for rarity. TWM? When & where?

ned - 22/11/04 at 09:44 AM

write into oner of the kit mags? they often have these sort of questions in them..

Ned.

Terrapin_racing - 22/11/04 at 09:56 AM

Ask Steve Hole @ totalkitcar.com

MikeRJ - 22/11/04 at 01:20 PM

It's very definately a Triumph engine. The only thing I found on TWM (http://www.team.net/www/ktud/britreg.html#twm ) suggests the car was based on either a Ford or Austin A35. Of course the engine could have been swapped at a later date.

I'll post the pics on Pistonheads if you want, a llot of knowledgable kit car people on there.

what about an "ashley 1172 roadster"
1959'ish
which used a ford prefect chassis
or an austin 7 chassis

ned - 22/11/04 at 02:07 PM

this is the sort of thread that gets all the knowledgable old boys out of the wood work... (not me!)

Ned.

If it is an Ashley, with 1172 engine, it'll be a Ford 8 (or 10) chassis.
"1172" is the capacity of the ancient Ford E93A s/v engine (last seen in my old Ford Pop - SOK 520; RIP).

MikeRJ - 22/11/04 at 05:55 PM

This is an Ashley 1172 Roadster, close, but I don't think it's one of them.
