A mate of mine has found a coin with 1700 ( i cant remember exact date) but 17XX something on it. it was pushed in the mortar of a building he is
taking down.
He has been told not to clean it yet, any one on this far reaching forum got any leads or reccomend a good place to get it checked out?
It has HH stamped on it too.

A good place to start is the finds officer (or whatever he/she is called) in your local museum...
They look like silver three pence's (d's) I have a hoard of them collected by my father they are worth what 50% silver content they are as scrap. If I am correct! Wish the image was better.
Just had this from him....It has George 111 d Rex on the heads and on the tails it's the Britannia with 179?
Got some more pictures but they are no better than the ones I took.
Had a look on ebay all the George III coins are round even the valuable ones, yours are hexagonal ish. You need an expert.
