Hello everyone...
I'm looking to tidy up/sort out my garden. Behind my house is a large field and every year I have to hack it all down from behind the hedge. It
looks really unsightly and I'll like it to look a lot better!
As you can see it's full of brambles, weeds, nettles,
What do you all advise?
Ideally I'd like it to look like the neighbours!!
The neighbours have sorted theirs!!
Park some old cars on it. Stops the grass growing especially if they leak lots of nasty fluids.
strimmer with a metal blade (forget its proper name) then a perfect excuse to hire a mini digger to turn it all over and flatten it out
plenty of grass seeds to get some grass growing before the weeks take over again
don't know what your neighbours look like, so don't know how you could make it look like them joking!
i'm hiring a 3/4 ton digger at the weekend (1.5 ton would be better, but won't fit through the gate) it works out to £150 for the weekend
(friday nite to some time on monday)
had a 1.5ton digger a few years back, was excellent value i think. a lot better than having to move earth by hand
regular cutting with a petrol lawn mower,...
sheet mulch (plastic sheeting or a couple of layers of plain brown corrugated card weighed down (easy to get loads for free)) for 6 months to a year
to kill everything off then replant with a perennial ground cover plant like Siberian purslane (all edible) and/or Creeping dogwood (edible fruits).
Both around 6-8" tall
pretty, edible, no maintenance.
also there's the Burt Munro method

Thanks everyone! If I could get away with parking cars on it....I would!
Sadly can't afford to hire a digger but liking Blake's plan of slashing it all down and then planting grass, sounds simple and cheap too -
perfect!
Thanks again everyone!

Get the neighbours to show you how they did theirs. Simples.
u2u lomoss he is your expert in this matter........
Looks like it just needs a good cut!
buy/hire a GOOD quality 4 stroke strimmer (you dont need a brushcutter, they are lethal) and clear all the brambles and grass etc and then simply mow
it once a month.....
Take time out in your space. I would love a garden with space for grass. I hust have paving. Mine is great for no maintaining and parties. Bad for rugby and rc cars!!
I would advise you left it. It seems as though your neighbours house would be much more inviting to a burglar. Much easier to get over the fence.
Strim back with a petrol strimmer or "bush cutter" or a sycikle mower
Then keep short with a heavy petrol mower with in 6 months Real grass will dominate
A few goats would soon fetch that lot down
But if you make that waste bit of ground nice and flat, surelythe kids will play footie etc in there ?
and anoy the f*** out of all the neighbours
