My 4yr old son reported an "orange glow in the oven" to SWMBO earlier in the week. The house then reeked of electrical burning for the rest of the evening.

Taking the fan cover off, this is what I was presented with...

Now looking at this, I think I should be able to replace the oven element and we should be back in business?

Any experts out there?

I am not a expert, but our oven did the same a few years ago, but it was the bottom element on ours, I bought one off ebay, and fitted it myself, simple enough job.

As above, did ours just before xmas, dead easy, element was less than £20.

Safer option than ebay I think.

The element is about #11 for pattern and #30 for original. Just wanted to confirm my diagnosis before ordering...

Just make sure when you fit the new element, that it is not touching the cover, as I was told this is the main reason for them failing in the first place.

I have replaced two for custumers recently and my supplier will no longer sell copies, only original maufacturer parts. He says it is just not worth the hassle as inferior copies often do not last 6 months and he has to replace them again and gets no cost towards his labour.

Elements failed replace with same kw and make sure the heat proof sleeving is in place on the supply leads.
Make sure the screw terminals are tight.
Disturb the wiring as little as you can to avoid damage to the insulation (brittle heat affected)

I think the reason it failed is that your oven is too clean personally... You know your not meant to clean it don't you?

It doesn't get done that frequently - it's supposedly self-cleaning....

Your element seems to be mounted internally Steve, so undo the screw and the element should pull out of its socket. Mine was mounted from the rear and I had to dismantle the whole damn casing! Having said that, took about 30 mins to disassemble, and about 10 mins to reassemble. I turned off the local switch, the red on the panel and then the panel too!

My element ( also a genuine and not compatible) has been running for many months now. It did take two uses to get back to normal cooking capacity, I assume there's some coating to be burned off first?
