I had a slight oil leak on my car last week so thought i should have a squeeze underneath to have a look what was wrong. I found this:
astra sump
Out of the 13 bolts that holds the sump on 6 were missing. I have never had the sump off so they have either been missing for 5 years or they have
just disappeared! I have replaced theses bolts now but as of yet i am not sure if the leak has stopped yet. Anyone have any ideas as to what may of
happened to them?
BOLT FAIRYS
I would guess they where a little lose, and vibration has been slowly undoing them, until they dropped out...
thats taking "make it lighter" to the next level
Over the years I have come to the conclusion ---
If it has a thread ---- Loctite it.
Second the Loctite, and in five years this is the first time you have looked at the bottom of a hand built car?
Thats nothing !!!!!
My hot beetle that had a 1700 kent in it had a vibration....shortly after working on it.....looked and found only a bolt and a half holding the engine
in.........
When we are out working in the roads I find loads of bits that come off cars..one wonders some time what it was holding before it landed on the
road.......
Its the number that would suprise you. So its not just kit cars ...that have this problem
Wired or locked it is the only way.
Clean it first with acetone...to remove the oil
i saw a propshaft laying in the gutter on side of main road recently
Yup - loctite then inspection laquer, like this then at least its easy to
check....
