BEK's
matt.c - 8/7/09 at 09:12 PM

So then if i sell my indy who wants to start a CEC vs BEC vs BEK war?

BEK = BIKE ENGINED KART.

Also would anyone be interested in seeing a build page for a BEK then? Dont want to leave the forum as there are too many top people on here who could help with the racing BEK build.

I kind of like the people on here too....

we bring this up at work too often, ive a blade turbo engine sat on a work bench, im just waiting for a car to put it in. BEK sounds quite good

nib1980 - 8/7/09 at 09:16 PM

already been done, search You tube for "R1 go Kart"

Would love too but dont think the regs would like that much so its going to be either 125cc's or the 250cc's

It sounds a great prospect, but don;t go for a big bike engine - search Youtube for R1 Kart and you'll see why...

They have so much power that the tyres just spin constantly.

It does give me an idea for a kart based drift competition though...

used to have a 125cc rotrax engined cart, screamer.
fast lottle bugger

eccsmk - 8/7/09 at 09:26 PM

matt have you ever been on a 100cc kart??
my first kart was 100cc arrow engined
mega fun

(i was only 14 tho )

bassett - 8/7/09 at 09:33 PM

The mentalness of the idea attracts me but having driven some of the fastest karts id keep my two strokes like a TKM/rotax as its just like attaching a car engine to a 7 its a boat anchor

what would you do with the kart, race or private road? seems lots of gearbox karts about at mo from about £750 ready to race but seems to be a lot less short circuit tracks doing gearbox classes now. lots of options if you happen to own a nice carpark or road tough.

Mainly grass to start with.

Matt I hope you have big kahoona's!!!

I did this race in 2004 having raced all over europe for 5 years. As you go through the centre of Peel the safety precausions are the kerb is painted white and the lamp posts have a straw bail in front of them. All I could think about was which lamp post was going to kill me! I did it in a 125 Anderson Rotax short circuit. I was touching just shy of 130 on the straight and it was so bumpy it blurred your vision to the point where you couldn't see.

Great fun but I would never do it again!

I have a bike engined kart. 110cc Yamaha 2 stroke with a 4 speed 'box mounted on an old zip kart chassis. It's a lot of fun - enough power to drift it fairly well but not enough to trash the tyres in seconds like that gixxerkart.

KART 1
KART 1

KART 2
KART 2

Local industrial estate makes a good private track on Sunday afternoons, and the sequential box is great fun, clutchless shifting is easily possible if you get the timing right.

For sale if anyone is interested - £175 ono. Needs a new pair of back tyres due to the aforementioned drifting (£20 on ebay), otherwise pretty sound.

Either buy mine or build one - highly recommended for cheap fun!

that is karting!!! done 250E early 90's and hate to say ive got the urge again! watched long circuit at Snetterton which is a fast track and the 250's were lapping faster than formula 3's and GT's!

that looks a little mental to me

RK - 8/7/09 at 11:10 PM

I think the Isle of Man thing would be better with a few parked cars around.

Totally nuts as it is though.

Humbug - 9/7/09 at 06:23 AM

I thought karts are (or at least traditionally were) bike-engined already?... just that they tended to be 100-250cc and not 1 litre

Mr Whippy - 9/7/09 at 07:02 AM

Nash that vid is very scary
