pif - 8/1/09 at 04:09 PM

me and the boys are planning to make our big event this year a trip to leman in june for the 24hours event.

none of us (4) have ever been before and could do with some advice on everything. we normally camp and for safety and logistics we plan on going in tintops.

q. what is the best way to get there, from the northwest of england. ferry? from where or euro tunnel.

q. which is the best campsite, dont mind atmosphere, but will need some sleep at some point.

q. what are the must see's, at the circuit and locally.

q. any one know any locost ticket outlets too??

any thing else we need to know or be aware of.

thanks

pif

Im competing in the 24 hour karting endurance there. You can get most stuff by the carfour(massive supermarket) right by the track. We camped within the lemans track and found the ground very difficult to pitch tents as its stony so we used weights to hold tents down.
If your in a hurry tunnel if not ferry as its a fair bit cheaper and make sure you avoid paris as on the way back last year we didnt as we got lost and went straight through it - nightmare lol.

If you are planning to go via Dover use Norfolk Line by far the cheapest. Don't go in tin tops, you will regret it as it more fun to have something special when you get there. Campsite Bleu is good and right by the main entrance. Do not miss the circuit village at night and a must is to drive around the circuit on Friday, spectators wil make you spin your wheels-up, if you don't it's usually a soaking with water pistols. Above all enjoy and have a week of drinking and racing it's brill. Barry

If you want less driving (in France), I'd suggest the (6 hour) Portsmouth - Caen ferry.

Get to Travelodge night before you travel, boat across then a couple of hours from Caen.

They have put together an excellent guide to everything to do with Le Mans.

Excellent stuff. In fact I believe some of the race teams gave some sponsorship in exchange for use of the guide as part of their promotional stuff.
