Why so few hard tops?
Many owners of production convertables opt for a hard top as well/or instead of a soft top, so how come i hardly ever see a hard top for kitcars? Not
just the 7-esque ones but also Cobras, Marlins, Hawkesetc etc. Is it the look of them or a practicallity issue?
From a locost perspective i can see the problem, there probably isn't two locosts out there with an identicle chassis but for higher volume
companies like Tiger i might have thought there could be a demand for it?
If anyone has a hardtop lets see some pictures.

Why else?
Because we like getting rained on

hard tops
Because we love to be out in the open air.
and if it does rain. Or more like when it does, the soft top can be pulled out of the boot. (couldn't do that with a hard top)
It really bugs me when I see someone out in a covertable with the roof on and the weather is fine.

Hard tops add all sorts of confusion such as doors, windscreen and windows etc. It would complicate builds not to mention raise costs. I
wouldn't mind a hard top myself though, they're (dare I say it) a bit more practical than open top cars.
That hard top 7 looks fantastic, what is it?

Wow , that racing 7 looks awesome.I would also say that a hardtop is more practicle but not as versatile as a soft top. There must be quite a few 7
drivers who use their pride and joy for every day transport who would benefit from a hardtop, Better security, better prtection etc etc.

Where is that one from Dale? Looks like the perfect model to get a mould made from!! I like the way it has bulges in the doors for elbows. Gullwing
doors are well trick.
Im surprised no-one has made a kit version that can be finished with wipers and heaters etc as reqd.

Just had a 'silly' thought whilst looking at those pics....
How about an easily removable hard top with integral doors (possibly gull wing) and integral windscreen/wipers/demister) ? It could plug into a multi
socket at the rear somewhere and have a soft seal so it would make a good seal with the scuttle.
would be excellent for those who like no screen/aero screen on nice days/track days

It wants some running boards on it. It would look like the Anthill Mob's car from Wacky Races.

a good reason that 7's dont have hard top's is that once its on, its on for the rest off the day, as were can you stow it ??
normal cars have ac or and windows that go up and down
also even with doors on and no roof
on my 7 and no heater "bob" and i were quite cosy going to exeter 2 years ago
if we had. had a hard top we would have fried inside

Catervan had to put a hard top on for the 24 hour race they entered at ? Spa ? a few years back. I toyed with this idea a while back but forum came to
the same problem of where to stow it .
So if you want a hard top we can start designing now......

Dave,
It ain't that silly - I've been looking at mine for the last couple of months trying to think of ways to make it bearable during the
winter, and (to misquote a Vulcan mindmeld your thoughts were my thoughts!!
As it happens I'll have no heating or screen so may just need some Ready Brek
