The power of paint!!

engine is honda 2.7 (rover 800). That one is the spare one which is empty (except crank) and undone so i can move it in and out of the chassis by myself bit by bit.

In there at the mo to fab the intake runners and plenums to go with the megasquirt ecu.

World record attempt

Most joints in a steering column. Looks like a catalogue model pose from our winter collection.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Wow, that is a mean looking beast! Chassis looks really professional and well made, is it your own design or a kit?

Good luck with the rest of the build

Pete

Wow thanks everyone!!

Er yeah - the 4uj steering column situation was kind of unavoidable with the wide engine and front axle. But they're roughly phased to cancel out non-uniform velocity and all that. Dont have any play. Works fine luckily!

Chassis is kind of my own design (with plenty of input from friends and stuff on the net). Essentially a book with irs, modded front and structural scuttle and engine bay top frame. Was kind of needed to get stiffness back in the engine bay - the wide engine making the r tubes impossible.

where did you get the plastic blocks that you're using to support your steering column?

Hay, that's the most interesting seven I've seen for a while.

Any chance of posting more BIG pictures to provide ideas for the rest of us to copy. I'd particularly like a look at the front suspension and uprights.

Nicely made - it looks professional

Nice one Liam!

Gotta agree with Jon- that is a very interesting car. I love the front suspension.

Having gone for IRS myself I'd be interested to see some pics of your IRS system.

Cheers,
James

Ooooh!! Thanks for all the nice feedback!

*****
After giving up trying to find 22mm rod ends/spherical bearings/pillow blocks for a decent price (or at all) I made my own supports. Inch square nylon bar stock; two bits together held in the lathe (had to remove one of the three jaws and hold it in two - four jaw chuck woulda been nice); drilled and bored to 22mm. Then drilled vertically and bolted to steel brackets on the chassis. Bit of grease and it does a great job. They actually need opening out a little to take into account the paint thickness but oh well. Considering driling down the centre and inserting a gease nipple...

*****
Yup gearbox is cossie MT75 4x4. Brand new - been waiting 16 years to go in a car and be turned in anger! Poor thing. Imagine waking up only to find your intended home is in the history books after a long pruduction run, and all your ancestors are smaller and drive the wrong wheels!

*****
I have 3.62 front diffs coming out of my a**e. But a spare 3.92 might be welcome.

*****
Jacket was a christmass pressie and came from Here. Havent removed it since. Mmmmmm cow products.

*****
Some pictures of the front susp and irs in me photo archive. Front uprights are just Sierra 4x4. Good old MK made me some custom mushrooms (larger diameter than 2wd) for no extra! Lower joint is fiesta (matches sierra 4x4 lower pinch bolt arrangement - no room for taper). Festa joint not load bearing which is one reason for top rocking arm and inboard (using maxi joint).

Rear uprights are modified MK. Chopped off top and added BJ to allow toe adjustment (probably woulda been OK to yank a bush about a bit but oh well). Bottom joints are rod ends to adjust camber and toe. Have two mounting positions to play around with different rear roll centre (couldn't decide what I wanted and thought i'd find out on track). Finally I 'closed the box' by panelling the back in thin sheet as I have a stiffness fetish and drilling a few holes for lightness. My rear suspension box takes all the loading (as opposed to the normal shock towers) due to the inboard so is made very stiff and feeds into a triangulated tunnel.

*****
Removable engine cradle thingy inspired by (sounds better than stolen from) TVR Tuscan racer. Hugely increases engine bay stiffness if properly tied into front suspension box and scuttle, if you cant use the normal R tubes.

Cheers everyone

Liam

Have you thought of putting together a website? I think I asked you that when we met?

Cheers
