I'm getting worried, my car is.....

.......starting to look like a car!

car1
car1

car 2
car 2

Had it to the local Mot place for emissions, headlight alignment and a quick brake/handbrake test. Sadly failed to sort the first 2 as I never had time to lean the carbs off and my Mot tester mate just laughed at my dominator headlights as there was absolutely no beam pattern at all let alone a flat one! New headlights req and a carb tweak and back in a few days.

Apparently not all dominators Are made equal. One of my lights didn't have any sort of beam pattern the other you could just make out the flat pattern. He wouldn't have passed them for an mot.

However lots of people have and do pass iva and mot with them.

I think thats more to give a slight kick up to the flat beam pattern, however if there is no flat beam pattern then twisting the lens will make little difference.

I wanted dominators, but will likely go for some larger standard ones then either switch to dominators or photons post IVA.

If the beam pattern is not recognisable as flat or standard kick up, then yes MoT man will not be happy. its a very easy thing to measure and check.

It might be worth borrowing some different bulbs and trying them assuming they are not sealed beam jobs.
I found on my Landy that some bulbs gave a better pattern than others.

I know the pattern is in the glass of the lens. However the little shield in the bulb can be out of place and give a crap pattern.
I had exactly this.. its also a cheap option, but try some first. ie worth borrowing some bulbs to try before buying all new lamps.

I used those light right up to a few months ago, as standard they do give a flat beam. Follow the advice on the website mentioned above to get it to pass. My MOT chap laughed as well at first, but afterwards could not fail it. The light output is poor I found due to the small reflector area, I only changed them back to big ones as I preferred the look of the car once a full windscreen has been fitted.

its very hard to beat 7" or 5.5" standard headlights. One bolt, set the beam in less than 5 mins with a tape measure and a garage door and sail through every MOT.

Tried some better bulbs today but they were still crap with regards to pattern so Bought some 5 3/4" ones today. IVA is tricky enough without the thought of failing over something so simple.
