Ive always been one for botched jobs and junkyard projects... AND THIS IS JUST TOPS!
I dont know much about TIG's, but i do know they are expensive.. What sort of metal do they weld? i know they weld Aluminium but what else?
Also it says he used a TIG Torch, i presume this is the handpice and you would have to buy it?
A decent TIG plant has 2 modes of operation, AC and DC.
You need AC current for welding Ali, DC for mild steel, stainless, nmemonics & titanium.
A 'proper 'TIG' set also has setting for 'High Frequency Start' current, a facility to stop the little crater that appears in
your last weld pool called 'crater fill' and an infinite number of other settings.
I like that fella's knock up job. limited though it is.
that tig rules. I have an old busted lawnmower engine I was reconditioning for fun before I started this car lark, I might ressurect it and see if I can get ma tig on.
Definately gonna knock one of those up for myself

BTW - The guy who built that TIG unit says that even a 5hp motor bogs down under full load. Keep that in mind when sourcing a motor/engine.

I thought if motors bogging under load was a problem why not just use two motors and alternators connected in paralell should get good amps with less
strain?
I also think the dimmer switch controller should be replaced with a pulse width modulator circuit(PWM) cos you lose a lot of baterry power through
heat caused by the resistance of the dimmer.PWM is more in keeping with a tig anyway.An ermergency cut of to the feild coils would be good as well

As it is now we've lost some potentially useful contacts....
for anyone thinking about buying a tig.., I got an olericon S2000dc tig invertor for £525 all in, and is soooo smooth...welds look like machine done now...ok my work bought it but same isn't it...well recomend a tig to anyone...

years ago, i knew sprayer who had an old m/minor, he unbolted the fear wing jacked the car up,one side, replaced the wheel with just a rim and ran a belt of it to his compressor
Craig, if u build it and u want to check for "spark", I suggest u soak the surface of hippys thinking bench, attach the + and - to the legs
and see if he break dances when u throw the current up his trouser legs
