50cc Yamaha + Old bicycle

Thinking of building one!

Should do 30mph+, more than 100mpg.

Good points:
* $100 for a basically working scooter with all electrics (much less if I can make my own exhaust)
* Building SOMETHING while I wait for the big budget to materialize.
* Still considered a bicycle - can go on bike trails, bike lanes, anywhere a bicycle can go!
* Pedals will still work if I run out of gas
* 4-cycle so no mixed oil/fuel crap
* If it falls apart, I'll still be reasonably safe if I have to ditch

Bad points:
* Can only use it during the warm-ish months
* Bringing a suddenly much heavier bicycle to a stop with insufficient rubber brakes... Levered brake setup w/ multiple pads? Disc brakes? Drop an anchor?

ive got big hydraulic disc brakes on my dh mounainbike, they stop that pretty well so i think they would work well enough, the harder red pads would be best, once they get some heat in them the front one can lift the rear wheel and me sitting on the bike still at 30ish mph if pulled hard enough! great for rolling stoppies!

I am afraid the French beat you to this by 50 years or so! Look up Velosolex on wikipedia!
