Yeer Haa!! Been a great weekend and the chassis, finally rolling on it's own wheels and [nearly] all painted up came out of the garage proper
for some poncy photography!!

What engine you using?
Car looks very mint all over.

See you on the road in summer!!

hmmmmm 4 wheel drive ,,,any one want to buy a mk busa .
nice one ,the beast looks brilliant ,,when are we gonna see it up and running then
Most joints in a steering column. Looks like a catalogue model pose from our winter collection.
Wow, that is a mean looking beast! Chassis looks really professional and well made, is it your own design or a kit?
Good luck with the rest of the build
Pete
Wow thanks everyone!!
Er yeah - the 4uj steering column situation was kind of unavoidable with the wide engine and front axle. But they're roughly phased to cancel
out non-uniform velocity and all that. Dont have any play. Works fine luckily!
Chassis is kind of my own design (with plenty of input from friends and stuff on the net). Essentially a book with irs, modded front and structural
scuttle and engine bay top frame. Was kind of needed to get stiffness back in the engine bay - the wide engine making the r tubes impossible.
Liam
where did you get the plastic blocks that you're using to support your steering column?
Hay, that's the most interesting seven I've seen for a while.
Any chance of posting more BIG pictures to provide ideas for the rest of us to copy. I'd particularly like a look at the front suspension and
uprights.
Nicely made - it looks professional
cracking car liam, you can be well proud of that!
ps, i dont suppose you want a spare front diff?!

I like it!

Nice one Liam!
Gotta agree with Jon- that is a very interesting car. I love the front suspension.
Having gone for IRS myself I'd be interested to see some pics of your IRS system.
Cheers,
James
Well done liam you have not dissapointed mate.
Se you in the summer
hmm interesting , what gearbox is that ? , cossie Mt75 ? looks good !
What a great job ,nice to see some different idea's,that steering column is a work of art, love the jacket your wearing in first shot, very Steve Mc'queen
Yep, I gotta join the "me toos"......Great looking car..well thought out, well excuted.....nice one..
I really like the engine girdle if thats what you call it. Looks like I found an answer on how to keep my engine bay in the shape its suposed to be
in.
Dale
Ooooh!! Thanks for all the nice feedback!

After giving up trying to find 22mm rod ends/spherical bearings/pillow blocks for a decent price (or at all) I made my own supports. Inch square
nylon bar stock; two bits together held in the lathe (had to remove one of the three jaws and hold it in two - four jaw chuck woulda been nice);
drilled and bored to 22mm. Then drilled vertically and bolted to steel brackets on the chassis. Bit of grease and it does a great job. They
actually need opening out a little to take into account the paint thickness but oh well. Considering driling down the centre and inserting a gease
nipple...

Yup gearbox is cossie MT75 4x4. Brand new - been waiting 16 years to go in a car and be turned in anger! Poor thing. Imagine waking up only to find
your intended home is in the history books after a long pruduction run, and all your ancestors are smaller and drive the wrong wheels!

I have 3.62 front diffs coming out of my a**e. But a spare 3.92 might be welcome.

Jacket was a christmass pressie and came from Here. Havent removed it since. Mmmmmm cow products.

Some pictures of the front susp and irs in me photo archive. Front uprights are just Sierra 4x4. Good old MK made me some custom mushrooms (larger
diameter than 2wd) for no extra! Lower joint is fiesta (matches sierra 4x4 lower pinch bolt arrangement - no room for taper). Festa joint not load
bearing which is one reason for top rocking arm and inboard (using maxi joint).
Rear uprights are modified MK. Chopped off top and added BJ to allow toe adjustment (probably woulda been OK to yank a bush about a bit but oh well).
Bottom joints are rod ends to adjust camber and toe. Have two mounting positions to play around with different rear roll centre (couldn't
decide what I wanted and thought i'd find out on track). Finally I 'closed the box' by panelling the back in thin sheet as I have a
stiffness fetish and drilling a few holes for lightness. My rear suspension box takes all the loading (as opposed to the normal shock towers) due to
the inboard so is made very stiff and feeds into a triangulated tunnel.

Removable engine cradle thingy inspired by (sounds better than stolen from) TVR Tuscan racer. Hugely increases engine bay stiffness if properly tied
into front suspension box and scuttle, if you cant use the normal R tubes.
Cheers everyone

Wow Liam! I'm proud to buy your cast-offs!
Have you thought of putting together a website? I think I asked you that when we met?
Cheers
im liking the engine cradle chassis stiffener bit , something to think about .
Is it bushed to the chassis ?
Looks fantastic Liam - well done.....
Thanks Jasper! your avatar's not too shabby either!

ah ok , it looked like the engine was bolted solidly to the cradle
Very nice.
Just a bit too complicated for me
I'm having enough trouble with 2WD!!

Liam,
When we first met at some show or other, I thought who's this kid think he is buying HUGE spanners! The idea of a V6 4WD Locost thing will never
get off the ground!
I'm eating my words as I type, and am seriously impressed and not a little jelous of your efforts.
Anyway enough of this praise, bring beer and meat to Stoneleigh (and more pics) and get stuck into taking the wee out of our 'book'
Locosts!
Marcus
Liam that looks one serious piece of kit. It looks the dogs bollox already!! I look forward to seeing it finished!!
Thanks guys!!!
Marcus - you may also remember me saying it was supposed to take a year! Ha ha ha haaaa haaaa aaahaaa haaa.
Ha ha haaaahaaa haaa aahaa aaa haaa!!!
Haa haaa haaa aa haaa......
The tape measure and the chase away from the MK stand was worth it then liam, get yourself to stoneleigh but were not throwing batteries and cigarette lighters on the bar-b-q this year
Liam,
Have you got a website sorted out yet?
Ummmm, well kind of...
My site
Prepared to be unimpressed. Just sort of learning Frontpage a bit and trying out advanced features like 'menus' and 'pictures'.
I ought to get some actual content on there soon.
Liam
Wow, looks very nice!
I have a question though. Does your steering bind up at all when the front wheels are off the ground? I just noticed the near 90 degree angle your
steering shaft is on (could be the angle of the pic though).
I like your front suspension set up too, it will be a nice clean look with the bodywork on.
Very good! Lol, get some pictures on there man!

Just one thing that I want to ask about. I though Maxi ball joints were designed to run in tension not compression, will they run ok the wrong way round? I was planning on using Alfa bottom joints in the same position, but if the Maxi joints are ok I might use them instead.

In your Rear IRS pics in you archive, that is an interesting use of Drill bits in the bushs, not much shear strength in a drill bit mate.
Only joking, really nice car, hope it goes well, and would be interested in seeing it finished.
