Harness help
pekwah1 - 25/8/17 at 07:51 PM

Hi guys,

After some advice, been offered some harnesses but the shoulder straps don't have permanent fittings as they were designed I think so that they can be used with a rollcage as well.

Anyway, I would obviously want to fit into my kit, any thoughts on this type?
Hopefully the picture shows what I mean clearly enough

Looks like it was designed for eyebolts Mate ?

Sorry, if you look at the shoulder strap bits which have the clips at the top, they're not actually stictched, they're just fed through

This is a very expensive Schroth adaptable setup which I have in the Phoenix.

Have a look at the videos on the Schroth site to 'wrap' them correctly in the holders. They are there so you can adjust the length, mount then on a rollbar or change the attachments.

My favourite harnesses.

Ok cool, look like they'd be ok, anyone know if I'm likely to get issues with IVA with this type of fitting?

Im afraid you'll struggle with IVA due to the buckle more so than the eye bolt fittings. Ive also gone for Schroth belts but bought new with the FE buckles that have the required red push button.

You can get 2 bar slides but as per the video, the 3 bar slide wrapped properly should be pretty secure (might get some slippage over time). I've got bolt on mountings for mine - bough some Lotus Elise wrap around belts then bought bolt on mountings for the top, and had some top hat adapters machined to convert the bottom mounts to M8 as per my chassis.

Like wot Jeff said. Very adjustable so are the best for a tiny Striker (even with a Phoenix body to weigh it down )

I have them in mine. You are not a million miles away if you want to come and see mine some time?

Are twisty buckles bad for Iva?
I'm sure I passed my last Iva with them.....

I thought it was just that you needed to be able to releas it with one hand?

Rules may well have changed over the years so don't take that as latest rules but certainly used to be the case. Pretty stupid that FIA approved belts weren't road legal when I last built a car
Hopefully being Shroth they will have the FIA approval on the labels?

I have just fitted a harness like that in my MX5

The roll bar has a welded in harness bar and I used the buckles as in this diagram I found.

I believe this is an acceptable way to fit them.

You can release these one handed, as you twist the release lever all the buckles pop out and the release latches in the open position
