... engine is out and since photo was taken, the engine mounts as well as the rail have been removed.

I think the 1600 engine will just about squeeze under the bonnet - I won't be able to lower it due to chassis rail getting in the way of the gearbox starter motor bulge - bu**er!!!

Also, I've never seen a cutout in an upper rail like that. Is it an adapted book chassis?

that upper rail is b0770cks; it is there to clear the centre 2 branches of exhaust.

I am thinking of cutting the bendy part out, cutting notch in rail to bend it so it touches top rail and welding it. Maybe antoer rail from there to the front, shown dotted below.

BTW chassis is plan-built formula 27, crossflow engines. Rescued attachment aaal.JPG
