.... I may or may not finish.
Spent last evening to get to this point:
Everything came undone nicely
discovered that my head is leaded (I can feel big ridge in exhaust ports that would be the inserts)
.... but already having second thoughts as remembered the supercharging article.
Maybe I should opt for a 1/2 way house, instead of taller 1660 engine transplant, up the level of current engine:
such as:
- larger valve head and ported
- more whacky camshaft (dunno what's in at the mo'
- 1100 pistons?
- vernier timing
- or maybe attempt the supercharger?
- bore out block to 1430???
hmmmmmm......

Hypercharge it
whats your budget?
In theory I have all the bits already so no need to spend any more but I would be looking at:
1. overhaul of head with unleaded inserts and larger inlet valves - that would be £ 300 ish.
2. duplex vernier timing gear £ 100
3. 1600 inlet manifold £ 100 (if I go to taller block)
oooh, it soon mounts up but that is not a prob; I guess it is gonna be in region of £ 500 - 700.
and no, no zetec or bike engine suggestions.
I have various zetec/engine & engine bits that I either am gonna fit or else sell as these are just taking up space.
£500-700
you could buy a larger second hand engine for far less
why not fit the 1600 engine and use the money you are saving on cams etc to buy a bespoke exhaust? It will be cheaper I bet and then you arn't throwing away all that hard work when you decide you want the bigger engine after all.
I have a very nice 2.8 v6 in the garage......

If your thinking of fitting a supercharger as in the PPC article it may be better to fit it to the taller 1600 block due to clearances
