Hi guys,
Im Nick from Norfolk and im quite new to this so hope im doing it right. It started last year after buying an MX5 shell off a friend. Wasn't much
left of it but had all the important bits. I choose to go for the Vodou plans instead of the Saturn ones as i think there are more measurements on the
vodou plans but will see as the build goes on.
Quite easy to say this is not a fast build, its quite difficult to get out in the garage as much as i would like with a 2 year old in the house. Im
happily plodding along with it and try to get on it as much as i can.
I have been building for a few months now so have quite a few pics to upload. They are probably not the most exciting pictures as will look fairly
similar to alot of builds on this site but just wanted to contribute and share my build.
Welcome to the site Nick
Definitely upload the pictures - It will give people a chance to offer advice on what you're up to. Also majorly adds to the history of the car
in my opinion.
If you're anywhere near Norwich and need a hand with anything, let me know.
James
Thanks James
Im from a little village next to Thetford so not too far form Norwich.
Been trying to upload this morning but keep getting an SQL error message.
So this is my bench i built. Made it from 8x4 18mm ply and made a frame out of 6mm angle to strengthen it.

Let the fun begin!
So this is the start..

build 2
Am quite new to welding so been doing alot of practicing. Was quite happy with the way its turning out.
Not going to lie, i have a bit of spare scrap after doing the front frame. Took a couple of attempts to get right but got there in the end.
Yep - the front frame takes a bit of head-scratching! If I remember correctly, I cut at least one (probably two) with one end cut completely on the
wrong side when I did mine..

More progress on the chassis.

I did cheat a bit. I bought a plate pack from the internet and i am really happy i did.
Ordered a complete chassis plate pack from Plazcutz and they were great. I sent them some drawings of the Vodou plans as the plates i needed were
slightly different to the books ones and i also got them to cut my wishbone plates too.
They plasma cut them all out for me and they look great.
Saves me so much time. Plus knowing everything is straight and correct makes me happy too.

Now to start the rear end

My welds don't look the prettiest but think they will do the job nicely.

This is currently where i am at now. My missus is due to drop with our second baby any day now so dont think i will be able to get out much for a
while.
Looking good Nick, can't beat those magnetic 90 degree clamps. Welds look ok, plenty of practice and a few youtube mig welding instruction videos
and you will be fine.
Cheers
Craig
Thanks Craig. Those magnets are great i use them quite alot. Not all the ones i have are good though some are too strong. Its frustrating when i cant
pull them off a piece im working on. Worse when you get a finger caught in between it.
I will look on you tube for some videos. At the moment im taking lessons and tips from my grandad who is a fabricator but like you say i just need
alot of practice.
Managed to get in workshop for a bit as baby still hasn't made an appearance. got a few more bits done on the rear end.
