Hi
I'm really struggling to visualise the K series in my 'new' Striker', especially as I've spent a year thinking about putting
it in a mid engined car (Elise).
I've spent ages searching but would be grateful if anybody could share photos / links of their k series installations. Any '7' not just
JP cars would help!

Pretty much every caterham ran the k series until the duratecs were used. Other than the odd fire blade car,hpc Vauxhall and early 1700cc cross flow

I'm starting to get my head around it! It's the cooling system that I'm struggling with for some reason. I guess it's the fuss
about the remote thermostat in the mid engined cars that is confusing me!

Caterham also use an anti-cav oil tank on the k series. Not sure what it does or if it works though!
I think it's to 'defroth' the oil which gets mashed by the crank (because the sump is so shallow). I could be talking boll***s
though!

The none remote thermostat location is on the bottom hose not the top this is one of the causes of the headgasket failures. I have two cars running k
series engine both have been fitted with a freelander remote thermostat, car builders solutions also sell a thermostat. The other option is to buy a
standard k series stat with housing then it in the top hose and keep the other housing but without the stat.

The PRT (pressure relief thermostat) is the one used on later vehicles such as the Freelander and helps head gasket issues by allowing coolant flow is heavy engine load is applied when the engine is cold. This was a particular problem in the Freelander as it was a big heavy vehicle for the engine to lug around, but also helped with the rear engined cars.
The PRT is a favourite with K series Caterhams

I fitted a PRT to the Elise but it stayed behind when the Elise went.
I've also got a Laminova water to oil cooler which I may use as this brings the oil up to temperature more quickly - good for sprints and
hillclimbs.
Sounds good.
All you need now is the Caterham 6 speed box to keep it on the boil!

Sorry to be cheeky guys but I'm struggling to work out the engine mounts! I've just received a set of Caterham ones from Scootz (there are
four), the chassis (which was not designed for the K series) is in one location, the engine in an other. Could somebody send me a couple of photos
with the Caterham mounts on a K series .

Straight from Dave Andrews - short stroke 1400 - it's basically one of Dave's 1900 K engines but with a short stroke crank and custom
pistons. So it uses the big valve VVC head which doesn't usually fit on the small 1400 bore. It'll run on an Emerald K6 ECU :-)

Not all K series MG/Rover cars have a remote thermostat, it was only the MGTF and was fitted to avoid thermal shock caused by the long under body pipes from the engine bay to the radiator dumping cold coolant in to a hot engine.
