Anyone running a single seater?
As above really - is anyone running a single seater of any kind?
I have a hankering to either buy a cheap formula ford/vauxhall type thing and run it for a bit or maybe build a bike engined terrapin (the latter
would be my preference if I can get my hands on the plans). Or, maybe something in the middle (buy a FF rolling chassis and chuck and bike engine
in).
Just wondered what people did about running them on track days etc. Obviously I'd get time on hills and sprints but not really enough to fully
enjoy ther car and get used to driving it/set up etc.

I have had a couple of converted FF1600s in the past and I am (slowly) building another based on a 1981 Royale RP29 fitted with an R1 XV engine.
Project
Single seaters tend not to be track day friendly - but you can book the odd test day at some of the more specialised sprint venues if you need a bit
of seat time or testing.

Yup, built a Reynard 883 Kawasaki over last winter.
It's a 1988 Carbon F3 tub, with a home built subframe to take a ZX10R, quiafe diff and then the majority of the Reynard suspension.
I hillclimb and sprint it, and trust me it's a as big an adrenalin injection aiming for a low 50's run up Loton as it is doing a 2 lapper
of Pembrey or Anglesey, and a totally different ball game from any track day.
If you want longer runs there's nothing to stop you circuit racing something similar in the Monoposto Championship and I think 750mc F4 and
probably a good few other local championships too.
Track days are a bit of a none starter though, only one I know of is Aintree - via the Liverpool motor club, don't think many of the other
organisers allow single seaters. But, if you do your ARDS test you could just do a test day instead, pick the right venue and they're little or
no dearer.
I would think you'll find any half way decent formula ford is probably a bit expensive to start cutting up these days, perhaps a Vauxhall Junior
would be something worth looking as they go for not-a-lot?

I quite like the idea of a single seater one day. All of the track days I have been on always state no open wheeled vehicles.
Maybe you can do track days as part of aa testing session with the big boys.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

there was a single seater on my last trackday at oulton. he had fitted cycle wings front and rear and said he had never had any problems doing
trackdays in it.

Jesus that looks nasty, poor bugger glad he pulled through...... pretty much sums up why i sold it, had a nagging feeling it would bite me before i
had chance to learn it.
It only weighed about 300kg and was going on for 250bhp, which is fun until it goes wrong...

I always fancied racing the formula Jedi series but I couldn't justify the expense of competitive racing that's why I've just bought
my mk Indy do I can get back into doing the odd track day instead
