924 turbo....I love classic insurance!
So I've been hankering after another Porsche 924 for a while now (dont ask why, I just like the 70's retro feel and they do handle very
well....and im a bit odd lol) and one has come to my attention locally (a turbo ).......
Brown Toofaa Turbo 3
Brown Toofaa Turbo 2
brown toofaa turbo!
Its a bit of a project (although it looks mint in the pics it needs some re-assembly and getting through an MOT), but the important thing is its
totally solid and the interior is in pretty decent condition......oh and its BROWN! 8) LOL.
Anyway, its not purchased yet but thought I'd best look into insurance. Imagine my complete shock/surprise to learn that I will need to fork out
a whopping £25!!!
Thats to add to the XR2 insurance policy with Peter James. I couldnt believe it lol. Come renewal time, it will be a whole extra £40, bringing the
total premium for two vehicles to £220.
My wife has of course gone bonkers at the proposition of another vehicle :|

Love the brown. A very underrated colour in my opinion.

Good RWD Audi's they are! I've had a couple through my hands and although I always preferred the 44's extra go, the 24 is a capable
and fun car. In fact, as a daily drive practical classic, what's not to like about them.
Do lift the rear mats and check for stress cracks as they can go a bit there due to the suspension/transaxle mountings causing flex. At least mine
did!

Oh really? I will have a check there then. I've seen it once but going back tomorrow for a better look (including on a ramp).
I've had a couple previously (a normal 924 and a 924S) and as you say I think they're great as a practical classic. This being a turbo
should make good use of the renound handling

I can still remember the first time I drove one. It was in Wiltshire back in 1990 and I was getting air of crests in the road at ***mph and I must
have had a huge grin on my face!
If it has cracked at all it's a simple fix, very easy but a great price negotiating point. I just welded up the cracks and then plated over them
and seemed the plates.
I'd still have another if it came up, but then I like older cars. I'm driving the girlfriends 20yr old 8v Mk11 golf gti around until I get
my Toyota sorted and loving every moment of it! In fact, I don't want to give it back!

I still miss my 924. Only downside was the colour, never looked clean, and it really needed stiffer springs.

Take a look at http://www.schembri.co.uk/924/html/tuning931.htm ..........my old 924 web site and 924 turbo that I built for trackdays.
The 924 turbo or 931 makes a great trackday car, but the old turbo design could do with upgrading i.e. water cooling. Plus you need to add an
intercooler.

More of a VW than an Audi..... VW LT van engine, plus it was a Porsche project for VW that Porsche bought back. The 924 turbo is very quick especially
if you add an intercooler and adjustable boost The standard 924 is a bit too slow

Built on an Audi production line IIRC and sporting the Audi symbol pressed into the inner wing also IIRC! But yes, built from the VAG spares bin. I
think the bell housing and torque tube might have been 9*4 specific but not much else!

great pics guys
The stock 924 is a bit slow but even so I still found mine quite entertaining - I think I actually enjoyed that one more than the 924S. Dunno why, the
2.5 just never felt like it wanted ringing (that and I was more scared of breaking it).
What sort of power did you get your 924T up to and with what modifications? I think I'll probably leave this one stock - although Im sure I
could do a nice discreet front mount for not a lot of money.
Is the lack of water cooling to the turbo really that bad? I run my XR2 turbo on an air cooled turbo and have never suffered many issues. I thought it
would just be a case of being sensible - cooling down period after a hard run etc?

I'd love a 924S, but alas I have space for only one car in my garage
Oh and I'm young enough that they are older than me ;-)

My modified 931 was delivering around 210bhp. I can't remember the torque figure, but was much better than standard. Adjustable boost (manual)
was good, but need more fuel (some use the cold start injector to boost fueling levels). IMO the turbo and the ZF box were the weak points, as I was
always fixing them after track days, and the parts cost a fortune. If building again I would have fitted a 951 gear box and a modern water cooled
turbo, or just get a 951 and change the body to 924 shape (I prefer the 924 look).
