GT6 rear end

Hi all i have just found this on retro riders forum looks interesting if anyone is doing a gt6 up

Hmm, love the idea, but don't like the bending force on the shock mounts.

Yea but there is not much alternative with a drive shaft in the way and a boot above. As long as the component parts are as stiff and strong as required it should be OK. Looks beefy to me!

I honestly think a modified standard late model GT6 rear end would be better.

Looks excellent.
Shocks mount has got to be better than the originals which were flimsily mounted to the inside of the wheelarches.
Note to self - look under the tarp and see if the rest of the car is still there or has it finally rotted away.

I was looking for something just like that 32 years ago for my Spitfire, front end was great, rear end was very scary

GT6 and spitfires had chocolate drivetrains. If you were going to uprate the engine it was always a problem. When I finally get my GT6 resto under way it will be with type 9 box and sierra diff plus the ST170 engine(I have a spare one) but keeping the Mk2 rear suspension.

I had a 1500 Spit years ago, you could tell when the back end was about to let go because both doors would simultaneous burst open - oh the fun!

My problem was chasing mates in Fords, when they lift off in the corners, I had to keep my foot in or the Spitfire rear would unload and give 20 degrees of camber change, scary

I love Spits, I had a couple of Mk3s in my yoof, and a few years back had a bit of a restoration on a 1500. My all time favorite has to be Ron Harper's racer. He's raced it for donkey's years, with Triumph, Ford BDA, and lately Honda S2000 power.

Now that I like. I have a JC Midge I built many years ago on a Vitesse chassis (very similar to GT6) I had contemplated making a new rear end based very closely on the Haynes Roadster rear end and grafting it on. Mmmmm!!!! Time to ressurect the idea after seeing this one.

Why does the concept of triangulation appear to escape so many people that make wishbones? Don't like the shock support at all, looks way too flimsy and is asking for a crack to develop at the point the brace is welded to the cross bar.

Just noticed the diff is not adequately supported either, the main lower mounting point isn't even used.

Except the original just had the dampers mounted there, not the actual springs taking the cars weight.
