why does it take me 3 or 4 tries to get anything right on this car!?
had 3 different plates cut for this exhaust now, the plates are spot on for what i've asked every time, but now i've come to cut the
manifold the pipes don't meet the ports in the plate
the original exhaust, it looks like the ports were made closer together then tapered out to meet the head
really really annoying! no wonder i'm still no where near getting this car finished

i'm one my 3rd exhaust plate (looks like i'll need a 4th ) and on my 3rd gearbox mount, on which all the bolt holes are central, but
the gearbox looks like its in 3rd when its in 5th. i'll do, i'll make it do lol, but the exhaust is too far out to work properly

Blake are these the XE exhausts you put up a post asking; dont I, do I with a while back?
I feel for you but you knew it would be hard!
You will get it sorted in the end.
I do alot of things first time then decide that I should of not done it at all and regret it. I then spend time putting it back to the way it was!
I dont know which of us has got it worse!!!
Still its all about the garage time. Fun, fun ,fun!!
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

I make EVERYTHING three times,
First time it fits but isn't right or doesn't fit,
Second time it fits but later on i find it interferes with something else,
Third time it fits and works.
Blooming annoying

yep, thats the one... here's the problem
Description
so, the top one is how the original one was, but despite looking at it over and over again, i could only see the engine side, which lines up almost
perfectly (like 1mm out)
bottom one is how i got the plate done.
its only apparent once i've cut it all up that the original one was made with the ports narrower and then ground out to meet the engine...
yeah, get there eventually, but i'm fed up of missing the summers starting to want someone to just do the rest for me, free, just because they
want to

Still, its more rewarding than walking around a great big park trying to knock a little white ball into a hole with a funny stick.
Plus when you get it right you'll know next time.

thinking i'll need to get ANOTHER one cut, only this time i'll have to get the holes done about 8mm smaller all round, then die grind
them out after welding... pain in the bottom.
when ever its finally done, i'll be the only one like it though

Not just you Blake. I went through 2 sets of wishbones, 2 1/2 sets of bodywork, 3 sets of shockers and springs, 2 sets of wheels, had the engine split
right down 3 times, 2 fuel tanks, 2 dash boards and the list goes on. No matter how much I thought I'd covered everything, there was always
something I'd missed. It's all a learning curve. It's just sometimes it seems nearly vertical!

That won't work well (if I understand what you are suggesting) as the pipes won't be lined up accurately with the ports in the head.
If the plates you've had are accurate when bolted to the head then you'll need to move the pipes to fit the holes rather than move the
holes to match the pipes.
If you don't it will flow worse than the cast manifold from the donor.

Same here - not helped by my criticism of my own work! I would do something, then come back a while later and decide that I don't like it. I
would then take it all to bits and start again...
Sometimes a job was re-done several times...

why would it be any different? if the plate has the holes angled in, it would have the same effect as extending the pipes i think.
from my drawings above, making it like the top one again.
i think* the exhaust may have been made by simpson exhausts many years ago (like pre 2001) and if not them, then by another pro exhaust maker. do
simpson mark their name in their exhausts?
