Virtually new cars at auction ?
Why would the motor trade decide that this is a good idea ?
I'm talking about the Mazda 6 at the top of this list. I know it isn't unheard of either. Why can't they just sell it directly to
apunter for retail money ?
Anyone know the inside view as to why they would do this ?

Two reasons I can think of;
1 - Liquidating Assets
2- Accident damage repaired

i don't know, but i guess it depends how it came about.
if it was traded in, then yes, they should really sell it for normal money, but if its been a reposession, then the company who repo'd it
won't really be able to sell it. i'd guess its one of them?

The Mazda is a month old with 500 miles on it. It's hardly had time to be damaged / traded / repo'd.

my mate works for a main dealers and things are hard ,so if they have it fosale say 20 weeks and they cant sell it its off to aution to cut there
loses and the mazda may be a repo.a lot of lease fleet cars are geting handed back at the moment as the companys go down the pan.

Its interesting that its a December reg!!
Ford used to do something similar when it came to the end of the year to get the Escort say to the top of the years best sellers list they would
register a whole batch of them and then sell them off as 'demonstrators' or some such.
Car companies can afford to sell cars at up to 30% off retail and still make a profit particularly when it is getting rid of surplus stock.

2 Legit reasons spring to mind:
1) Could be a customer reject?
2) A number of insurance policies for new cars offer a replacement car instead of repair in the first year.....

My wife's new car was a week old with less than 100 miles on it,
when she tried to write it off........Silly C**...

Hello all
Cars at auction are selling at £500 over book at auction at the moment.
If you look in autotrader you can buy cars cheaper than auction which is what i do.
Its been a mystery to me where the cars bought at auction are been sold because they are been bought at silly money.

My lad went to look at a second hand Astra sports hatch yesterday at main stealers, was offered a new one for just over 2 grand more over 8K of the
book price pre registered to meet vauxhall end of month saless figures as they then get bigger discounts.

Actually, I think I might have worked it out now.
The auction in question is selling a load of ex Motability fleet on the day in question.
Old boy signs up for new car.
Picks up new car.
Drives car to shops a few times.
Pops clogs.
Car sold off motability fleet.
Seems fair enough when you think about it.
Having said that, the clutch will still be toast

ive been to the auctions recently with a few trade people i know and they all say things are over priced, but they still seem to be selling! Diesels
were definatly making a good price but things like 07 Focus couldnt make a sale @ £4k

If they're only a few months old, they may have been "bought" by the dealership so that they qualify for they're quaterly
sales bonus for meeting their target. It is worth their while losing a thousand or two on a couple of cars to get a bonus of more than their losses.
That's why I bought my car in June. I got a good discount on it provided it was registered and collected before the end of the month.
