Classic car restoration advice
Toprivetguns - 14/11/16 at 07:51 PM

Evening all,

Currently struggling to finish my Astra GTE overhaul restoration and I'd really like to have her on the road for next summer.

Has anyone had a good experience with a reputable restoration company or someone they would recommend?

Any advice is welcome.

Cheers

The good companies always seem to be busy, They certainly are at the moment after speaking to a few recently

How far from your location would you be prepared to go ?

Not too worried about travelling. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These lads have a good reputation near us, but sadly its a long way from youself
They have a Classic car restoration arm to the business and I've seen some very nice work
They were also featured in one of the classic car restoration shows on the telly

I knew Lees Dad, Bill. Nice guy and had a Turbo Technics Xr4x4 'back in the day', pretty mean RC aircraft pilot too. Lee raced supercross and Clip Cup iirc

Is this a Mk1 or Mk2 Astra GTE? Only asking as I had a Mk1 when I was 19 - coming up to 20 years ago now! Be interested to follow a restoration thread...

Steve

She's actually in very good condition, however a good overhaul will keep her going for another 25 years.

I mind these Astra’s very well as they were one of my dad’s company cars, he went through three of them in as many years, first car blew a large hole in the side of the engine, second car he hit a lorry wheel lying on the road at night and it removed most of the passenger side, third car got a scaffold pole through the floor when a co-worker borrowed it to drive round the rig construction site. The Cavalier was a bit of a relief after that. I remember it being ok but a bit small after the Sierra.
