Possibly looking to change my Passat workhorse and fancy a change.
One of my requirements is to be able to carry a 2m x 1m sheet of metal so can anyone tell me
the maximum load width at the narrowest point of the floor when the seats are folded down please ?
This will no doubt be between the inner rear wings / suspension mounts.
My price range would cover the V70 Mk2, '02 to '08 I believe.
My Passat is 1005mm, which is OK for stainless or ally sheets but hot rolled mild steel is always cut big,
sometimes as much as 1015mm.
The other car I thought about was the E class Merc, but they all seem to be auto's.
Thanks in anticipation,
Paul G
i have the slightly newer 10 reg v 70 r design estate i can measure tomorrow if nobody has the exact model.
mines 2 litre diesel done 90k with nothing other than a set of discs and pads
Can measure my 05 plate d5 tomorrow evening for you. Great car

Thanks to you both for that info.
Even the mighty Merc is only 107cms.
Because it would be my work car I don't want anything too new or too posh. Cream cloth interior is definitely out.
A diesel would tow better but I only do 6k miles a year so a petrol is not out of the question.
Looks like the search for a manual diesel with a black leather interior starts tomorrow.
Thanks again chaps,
Paul G
D5 V70 here, great car for throwing in stuff and munching miles at speed.
Used to drive my old bosses V70 estate - good car and nice to drive. Big in the back too, I can't measure it now, but from memory you'd get a 1x2m sheet in with the rear seats folded down. I have just sold my Passat estate and can confirm that was large in the back, particularly with the seats folded down.
This is how tight a 1m wide sheet is in the Passat.
Note the cut in the carpet. Same other side.
Description
Found a couple of V70's with black leather interiors on Auto Trader.
One in Glasgow and one in South Whales.

Must admit to having lined my Passat boot with a blanket and sheets or corrugated cardboard when moving sheets of ally and titanium before.
