Question is, what do you want to do with it?

I hear lawn mower racing is good fun and cheap as a motorsport

Their is a chap on (I think) the retro rides forum who put a cx500 in one. Google will find it

you don't even need a twin for 20 bhp, mine has that and is just a single cylinder 4 stroke briggs & stratton series 3 engine. Your real limit is the traction of the rear wheels as I use mine for also towing an overloaded trailer.

Just want to use it as a tug for a small field trailer. It came with a 12hp Briggs single but an 18hp Briggs twin has come up and I think it's more or less a straight swap.

Might fit a Lambo body kit

Before you start thinking about large engines, the power has to be transmitted by a rubber belt like a fan belt. I just looked under the 22 hp Toro tractor I have had since new (2006).
The drive belt is cracked about every 6 inches and about to fail.
The engine is a twin Kohler which is much smother in its power delivery than a big single.
Years ago I put a 10 hp Briggs to replace an 8 hp Briggs and that worked well.

The 4.6 rover v8 I have sat in the corner doing nothing will be too much then.

Just checked in the garage I have a choice of
Rover 4.6 v8
tuned 2.1 pinto
tuned 1660 xflow

Type 9 box or choice from 2 ford four speed boxes

Sierra diff and shafts or recon 4 link escort axle

Sure I could cobble up something

I fitted a straight 6 two stroke engine from an outboard to my old Westwood. It was a bit noisy and pretty much unusable. A should've used a 60hp triple instead.

Brill

I love it when people do this just because.

That's a 30's Ford V8 60, smaller version of the flat head Ford engine which had 100 hp, as the name implies it had 60 hp.
That old Ford tractor had a gearbox and prop shaft not a V belt.
