Help Required : Winch Wiring Diagram
Barkalarr - 30/10/15 at 12:11 PM

To help me load my 500kg Caterham onto my trailer I have bought a 3000 lb (Yes, I know, a bit overboard) electric winch.

The guy I bought it from said all I need to make it work is this : eBay Item - so I've got that coming.

However upon further inspection, I'm not sure this is going to work because there doesn't appear to be a winch solenoid included with either of the items I've purchased.

So, I'm sure the solenoid is just a couple of 40 amp relays. Can someone please either draw me a wiring diagram which enable the remote to work with the winch or just tell me what I need to make this all work.

I do have a utility battery on my trailer so I can power the lights inside it which I charge up before using it.

I have a new toy I can't use yet and in hindsight, I should have just bought a 1500lb winch kit from ebay for £100 !!

yep that relay wiring should work

edit:
looking at the ad again, it might be designed to work without extra relays, says supply current 23A, check its instructions when it arrives.

edit again, then again it does say to connect it to the winches solenoid box, oh well...

Is 40A enough for a winch ?
Assuming about 1hp motor (770W) thats about 65Amps continuous .

Thi s is what should be used

what you have described is not up to the. job, have a look on ebay for albright winch solenoid or equivalent they cost about £30 and will come with a wiring diagram to match the remote you have bought. i get them from winch-it on ebay

the solenoid shown by ken in the post above is also correct but you would need four of them to make the winch reverse and is overkill for your needs
