Any suggestions on how to extend this fibreglass panel?

Hi there, I'm looking at extending my jago bonnet by 90mm in length, my initial idea was to make a mould of the centre then cut it and glass it back together 90mm longer, but some clever clogs realised due to the taper this idea won't work! So I'm left with extending at the end where it would be hinged to the body, what would be a good way of making a mould to be able to extend it?
I was thinking of clamping some hardboard due to be being flexible to the bonnet which over hangs for me to lay my glass onto then just got to create the lip for strength too.

Any better ideas??

Thanks in advance Greg

Here's a pic to help aid advise

On the Belfield Jago Andy extended the back of the bonnet by cutting & shutting 2 together.

Hard to explain but he cut back bonnet so the hump blended onto the other one?

Maybe you can just see what I mean on this picture?

All I planned for mine was a sheet of ali bent round the pole on the road...

Thanks for that and for going to the trouble of posting the pic!

That looks interesting however not invisible but maybe could be tweaked

Yeah easier to bend up a fresh one than mess about with the fibre glass- the Willys lookalike crowd tendb to go that bway as they don' want the hump or the 3 ribs at the front. Bloke from Glasgow made one about 10" longer so he could cover his merc straight 6
If you really bwanted you could cut hump off existing bonnet and blend it onto a flat ali one
If none of the above options are attractive you could just cut at hinge side and attach both bits to a ali strip which could bé glassed in underneath, the bit where the hinges attach does tend to crack so thiswould bé a good time to beef it up. We changed the Imp hinges for some massive jobbiers from. Volvo. 244 estate we spotted in scrappy

if the glass would bond to aluminium could you not put a strip on the underside of the bonnet to the correct 90mm extension.

could be rivited in place to the bonnet to keep it in shape and you could bond it to the bonnet to add strength?

never done any real glass work though so just an idea

glass wont stick to the ally , just make the extra 90mm out of ally and lay up inside of that .

you can use a glue gun to stick the ally to the existing bonnet

To extend backwards and keep taper...but scuttle end wider...

Take mould of red and yellow sections

Cut along green lines and separate back to where you want it to - should leave a gap between front bit (which red mould will enable you to cover, and gap between each other (which yellow mould will enable you to cover)

To extend forwards and keep taper...but radiator end narrower...

Take mould of red sections

Cut along white lines and separate forwards to where you want it to be; red mould will enable you to glass up the missing bit in the middle.

If you also take the yellow mould, then you will have a piece to allow you to join the narrowed front 2 halves neatly....

you want to extend back and keep the scuttle width, you could possibly cut a "v" front to back between the curved sides and the hump to narrow each side back.... i.e. cuts like the blue lines...

A lot of messing around, though....

Thats just a mock up, what he planned if there was any interest in the kit was to blend it all in a take a mould off it.

Nobody's ordered one so it hasnt gone any further.

There is a good set of instructions by Mr Whippy on here, on widening cycle wings. The same technique could be used. I did it for widening a fibreglass scuttle, which worked very well.
