Couple of issues though;
the engine is tall.. Very Tall.
It's also surprisingly Heavy.. who woulda thought?
the ECU setup is a uniquely Honda preprogrammed affair.
Sans the oem ecu and ALL the associated wiring it's just a heavy inert lump of mewtal
Difficult to outwit / improve upon the honda ecu setup.. Lotsa $$ solves most problems though.. eventually.
Not my first or second choice of power unit, as a Mazda 2.3/ 2.5 is cheap as chips at a wreckers.

Yeah, diff ratio's.
I've put a 4.3:1 in mine and think its a bit too low geared. Having said that if I do hill climb's on sticky tyres it might be ok.
When setting off it tends to spin the wheels a bit to easy and hit the rev limiter before you can throw another gear at it then it does the same again
in second so I wondered what you chaps had in yours. There doesn't seem any point in having six gears if the ratio's are a bit out. I'm
going to stick it on the rollers to get an accurate top end speed as the speedo is way out obviously.
I've also got a 4.1:1 lsd so that could just make all the difference.
After a bit of driving about and with the tyres hotter it does pull away a lot better with less wheel spin, but the low gears are even closer together
as I have smaller wheels than the s2000 and 4.3 instead of 4.1 and the car is about half the weight of the s2000. I could be wrong but recon the 4.1
will give me about another 10 mph in top gear which could be about right.

aparently the gear ratios in the honda 6 speed are not ideal for these cars but will still be better than most boxes we use!
Sounds to me that your tyres are too thin and your compound isn't soft. That's a lot of power to put though a 195
Look at hp/ tonne to try and make it relative. You're what, 500-700kg? less? You're around the 300-400hp per tonne figure, which puts you in
gt3/f430 territory
I know the weight is different, but the tyres are suited to match
S2000 guys go up to 4.7 on the diff, and a lot use this with superchargers/turbo's at 500hp+ at the wheels
In conclusion... more rubber!
I can't really compare what the s2000 car's are using as they have more weight and bigger wheels 17" or something like that so the nearest comparison is like a westfield type car. My car is around 710 kg. Like Dan says I recon the 4.1 will be better, but I think I'll stick it on the rollers with the 4.3 diff before swapping them. I have also considered building a second axle so I could use the 4.3 on hills and the 4.1 on track.
If i recall, i think Dan had the R500 wheels on his, which are wider than yours
What tyres are you using?
My point with the S2000's was that yes, they're heavier, but they're using similar gearing with much more torque and power going
through the wheels, but what keeps it down is the type of compound and the width of the tyre
Look at the subaru brz. They made the car with thinner wheels to make it more 'fun' i.e. reach the limits of adhesion quicker
Yokohama ao48 (M) for road, when warm I can set off without much if any wheel spin, but I'm having to throw gears at it far to quick in 1st and
2nd, but I'm a lot out of touch. You can also have your tyres too wide, we haven't just plucked this width out of thin air (It's a good
guess, lol) as I have about half the weight of an s2000, so probably more tyre tread per weight than them s2000 lads.
All I was wondering was what anyone might be using, tried and tested diff wise in a similar car. I've a few tidying up jobs to do so a bit
worried about taking it out testing as I'm bound to get pulled and don't want to fall out with pc plod.

I've been wondering about this problem too as I haven't brought my wheels yet. But I have been speaking with PWL who has the MNR S2000 in Germany and he's now upgrading his rear tyres to 215 on the rear using 15" rims.
It's a bit difficult to test it to be fair as I also have no pedal stop on the clutch so when its all going sideways and hitting the rev limiter
and I should be doing a fast gear change I have to remember not to over press the clutch pedal as it tends to over fill the slave cylinder which seems
to stick on, resulting in a slipping clutch under revs and a limp home. The only time it did this I had to back off the bleed nipple on the slave
cylinder to relive the pressure. So all in all it just needs a Saturday spending on it then a bit of testing.
This video is I think 4th 5th and 6th as when I set off my passenger hit the record button twice so he missed 1st 2nd and 3rd. So you can see how low
geared it is, but I'm well happy with the power plant. This was uphill also.

I'm running a 3.6 lsd on 16's, gears 5 and 6 are for cruising only really although it still pulls well in these gears from whatever revs. I
thought it was going to be useless and was going to swap out to a 3.9 or higher but I like the ratio and will most likely stick with it.

Not quite as simple as that as two piece axle, I could take the crownwheel of one of my other diffs, and swap pinion. I'll try it on rollers first as with sticky tyres it could be a useful hill climb setup.

i use medium r888 and put down 260bhp on cold ish tyres with no issues apart from a squirm in first
not a s2k engine though but has alot more torque

Thanks, I got these tyres for a bit of road work and testing so can cope with them for that, they are probably spot on tyres and my gearing not doing
them justice. They come good with a bit of heat.
I don't think I can get any other diff options other than the 4.1 and 4.3 installed so hope the 4.1 will be a bit better and give me a few more
yards in first and second.
I've spent two years building the car and don't expect it to be instantly at its maximum potential, but for me this is where the real
work/fun starts.
I remember (1987)swapping my escort/2ltr pinto night rally car 2000E box after destroying a few for a rocket close ratio gearbox and along with the
brakes this was high on the list as one of the best improvements I ever did to the car. Its not all about bhp, but it helps.
Ps the wildwood brakes on the kitten are bloody shocking so another job to sort out. I may have to play with pedal pivot points/master cylinders. All
in all just a bit of teething. cheers.

I've now got my speedo working correctly via a "Modrify" yellow jacket speedo healer. Took the car out with the sat nav installed to
re-calibrate the digital speedo and realised the car is geared about right, I was concerned it was under geared as it hits the rev limiter in every
gear even 6th, and I thought it may have only been geared for about 100mph, but it was hitting 110mph in 5th so plenty of legs if I need. Finished my
sliding windows tonight and dropped the diff oil to check for metal as quite a lot loose play on prop, but all is well. Put the badges on the rear so
all good. Ordered my helper springs today as on droop it all goes slack, but all in all very happy with it all. I still need rolling road and another
session on the scales and a load of tweaking on the suspension.

We weighed ours before it went in and even with the inlet manifold, etc, still on, it was only 108kg.
That's pretty damned light in my book.
As for traction, well, personally I'm hoping it's still spinning well into 3 figures
