The arm broke off some time ago at the spindle (I remember asking here how to get the nut off)
I've got a "new" one from the scrapyard, and got the rusty nut off the spindle, but there's a metal chunk under the thread where
the arm grips on.. The problem is that bit is part of the new arm... Have I got the wrong part or does that bit come off?
Post a picture - it sounds like the scrappy just cut/snapped the arm off to avoid having to undo the nut etc.
If that's the case then you'll need to get it off somehow to expose the splines which your new arm will slide onto.
A photo might help us to help you better.
Sounds like the remains of the old arm is still on the spindle. With the nut off you should be left with a splined taper to slide the replacement arm
onto.

Yeah I think that silvery bit is part of the old arm
Yep its part of the old wiper arm, looks wel rusted on.best cover rear screen and grind it off would be best,as said its a taper fit. mind how you go..
The silver ring will pull off. just needs a puller and some WD40.

I had the same problem with the 106 and my sons
206. That bit is aluminium and is a pig to get off. I cut most
of the way through mine with a junior hacksaw the split it by
twisting a screwdriver in the cut.The problem is,the arm is plastic
and the ally bit is moulded in. Water gets in and starts corrosion,
then they fall to bits.A brand new arm and blade is a tenner on ebay.

That makes sense. Would also explain why this arm looks different!
Got it from the scrappies for a fiver with the blade
Update: After trying to lift it off and soaking it wd40 I gave up and cut it off, which was easier than I thought.
Thanks for the advice everyone
