M5 and 250 GTO on Top Gear...
Steve Hignett - 13/3/12 at 08:32 PM

Evening All,

Just watching a Sky+ of Sunday's Top Gear and two things really really stood out.

1st, was the appaling Shut-Line Gaps in the bonnet meeting the headlamps. Unbelievable that the "best car in the world" would be so shockingly finished!

2nd, was that the 250 GTO is genuinely good looking... (and better finished than the BM!)

Thanks... Carry on...

steve m - 13/3/12 at 08:44 PM

IMHO most cars are better built than a BM

vanepico - 13/3/12 at 08:53 PM

I can't stand beemers past E36s, hideous congealed blobs!

steve m - 13/3/12 at 08:54 PM

I cant stand them since the 2002 (not a bad car!!)

vanepico - 13/3/12 at 08:58 PM

My dad started restoring a 2002, then my brother came along...

daniel mason - 13/3/12 at 09:24 PM

fact. most cars are not built better than bm's

steve m - 13/3/12 at 09:34 PM

Fact, most cars have working indicators,

Except BMW's

steve m - 13/3/12 at 09:54 PM

Its not just me, that have observed that the only courteus BM driver has either borrowed it, or stolen it,
or how do you know your talking to a bmw driver at a party, errr he tells you ?
whats the difference between, god and a bmw driver, ?? god doesnt drive a bmw

Why is it that every chav or non white person drives a BMW cos there black mans wheels

says it all really, there cheap and tacky, over priced, over rated, and over here

daniel mason - 13/3/12 at 09:57 PM

You are all NON car lovers, and just people haters.

Hear hear! If you don't like bm's then don't buy one.

Ferrari was gorgeous but maybe too pricey to enjoy driving. and how cool was Chris Evans garage!

All in a very good episode, particularly enjoyed the rally cross feature.

blakep82 - 13/3/12 at 10:22 PM

i thought cheap and overpriced was an interesting combination...
can't say i noticed the finish on the M5, might go back to it for a look, but yes the ferarri was awesome absilutely stunning

Very!

vanepico - 13/3/12 at 10:35 PM

I'm not too keen on the new Ferraris, but i do like the old ones, did you see when they tried to put the roof up! haha it didn't even fit xD

nick205 - 13/3/12 at 10:52 PM

Ferrari 250 - gorgeous obviously, but £5m....really, it's just a car.

The M5 looked A-OK to me and would probably be parked on my drive if I had the means. I should imagine they posses that usual solidity that the Germans seem very adept at.

vanepico - 13/3/12 at 10:54 PM

I wanna know how many times the designer chundered on the paper when designing the Z4!

But where is Mr Evans going to park the Ferarri 250 GTO SWB that is currently undergoing restoration back in Maranello, by some of the artesians who actually built it in the first place !
If that Califonian drop head get its own wing off the garage, a 250 GTO SWB should have its own sately home.

Steve Hignett - 13/3/12 at 11:04 PM

Sorry if I've mislead anyone, that was not my intention.

I was merely trying to point out the panel fit around the bonnet to the front lights - I didn't even really look at the fit on the rest of the car - I was watching an archery target video on youtube at the sametime as watching TG at the same time as drawing a hot air baloon for my (2yo) son and it just really stood out to me when I spent a few seconds glancing at the TV.

I'm not mormally one to point out shortcomings (well, not anymore ), but I was just surprised is all...

Also, the GT roof not fitting - come on, it's probably never been on/up, so it's hardly surprising, and it was only the hook missing off Chris' side that stopped it being pulled taught anyway...

Also, I can see a car being worth £5.6m a damn sight quicker than I could see a painting be worth that amout...

And fair play to Chris for owning it and driving it and the rest of his Ferrari's. I'd be doing the Exact same thing as him if I had his money...

As for his garage, it's appeared on two or three motoring programmes now (actually, one might have been a lifestyle programme, as Billie Piper was lay down with him on that white leather couch, both looking at the last Ferrari that he had in pride of place before the GTO) and his garage has always been the one I've thought back to, but not bothered to post about when the stupid dream garages threads come up now and again...

He's a realistic bloke and only lives round the corner from the TG track and is often known to buy a few beers after lock in at his local...

skydivepaul - 13/3/12 at 11:39 PM

agree a 250 GTO awesome one of the best looking cars ever. 250 GT second
better value than a painting............can you drive a painting?????

on the subject of BMW's......I have driven plenty ......owned NONE.
very overrated.

the older ones are better than the new ones

Toprivetguns - 14/3/12 at 11:50 AM

The fact Chris let James drive it in the wet proves he is a true piston head !

A Car like that needs to be driven...

Saw this last August in California while we were driving down the Big Sur, luckily we were sat admiring the views when I heard something nice in the distance and I managed to get a photo.

The music they played at the start of the M5 piece was 'Back To Business' by Pop Will Eat Itself, the opening track of their new album 'New Noise Designed By A Sadist'. I'm off to see them play tomorrow night in sunny Wolverhampton
