What is best (cheapest to run).
In order of cheapness:
Thicker jumper + woolly hat
Woodburner running on old pallets / other free wood
Radiator plumbed into your CH system
Gas heater (mains)
Gas heater (propane bottle)
Electric
But be aware the gas options will make everything wet and go rusty unless it's well-ventilated, but then you lose half the heat

i still think an IR heater is the best way, but after years, i still haven't got one
home made wood burner.....
as an added bonus you can upset the neighbours as well
having said IR (only because i dont want to make holes in my wall or roof)

Don't be such a wimp! Mel
I've got our gas fired BBQ in the workshop at the moment which works well as a heater, and also doubles as a man-friendly air freshener if you put some sausages on it.
I got a 800w IR heater from asda for £6 and its great plenty heat and cheap to run.

That will be as effective at killing you as running the car in the garage! Be careful!
Best I've found is a set of Aldi (or was it lidl) winter overalls.
Waste oil burner?
