First big bike....
flak monkey - 5/9/10 at 05:04 PM

Bought my first big bike today - well left a deposit on it anyway pending passing both my tests this week and next.

Standard 2001 Suzuki SV650 with 15k miles on it.

Previous lady owner dropped it on her drive so its got a small dent and scuff on the tank, other than that its immaculate. The same dealer had another SV in and it was £600 more with double the miles and 2 years older. Seemed like a no brainer to go with the newer one which had a couple of scuffs!

Looks just like this one...

Just need to pass my tests now! Oh and find some insurance....

I like the newer shape ie K4 and newer.

Loads of torque and handle very well.

Fed up with the chinese bike already ?

flak monkey - 5/9/10 at 05:20 PM

72bhp and 46lbft bit of a step up from 11bhp lol

Not fed up with it per se, just want to get on something with a bit more grunt after my test.

thats not a big bike

but welcome to the v-twin club
i have myself a vtr1000 and the best mod i have done to it is to fit race pipes.

the noise is fantastic and on the over run you get a nice few pops and bangs(enough to set car alarms off)

flak monkey - 5/9/10 at 05:24 PM

I am building my biiig bike

Its standard as it is. Will leave it alone for a while I think. Not sure my insurance will approve of mods

This was my last one;....

Welcome to the world of biking.
TWO WORDS for you,,,, GO STEADY, , until you have really become as one with the bike.

sv is a good first "big" bike.

Plenty quick enough for fun, and handles well enough.

My two sv650s (k2 and k4) both had CRAP front brakes - worth upgrading in my opinion.

Have fun on it

StevieB - 5/9/10 at 06:26 PM

SV's are good - it's on my list for when I get test passed along with an ER6 (new model

I'm re-doing my CBT tomorrow as the first step, bought as a 32nd birthday gift from the missus. I had a DT50 when I was 16 and have always kind of wished I stuck with the biking, even as a hobby rather than a main mode of transport.

My CBT lasped so I'll be ding it again, but since I've ridden bikes before and have 16 years driving behind me, the guy reckons it'll be barely a mornings work to get me passed then it's the reat of the day larking about on motorbikes

My mate has a proper VTR - the SP2 (in fact he has 3, an SP1 and 2 SP2's).

He has a full race Akrapovic system on one of them that sounds beyond awesome (the other has a micron sysem I think, which is equally good).

Snap!! I've a yellow one with high level Microns, had it for 8yrs and just can't let it go.

Antnicuk - 5/9/10 at 08:28 PM

enjoy and ride safely.

This is my old sp2, best sports bike i have owned, mainly just for the noise which sounded like hell on earth.

Couple of stonking classics ther Coozer

Still got my first "big" bike I bought 20 years ago, a 1979 GPx550 H1, weighs a
pigging ton compared to my current ZZR600 and just over half the horses too !

flak monkey - 6/9/10 at 01:24 PM

Well thanks for the replies guys. Interesting to see what other people have had as their first bikes.

scootz - 6/9/10 at 01:41 PM

My first 'big' bike... 400cc!

Oh to be a young man again! I reckon if I was to get on a ZXR400 today - then when it came to getting off, the bike would remain firmly lodged between my butt-cheeks!
