I have very generously bought a ford Ka for my daughter to learn to drive in - however it only came with one key for the ignition
Ford want £95 to program a new key if get one cut
I can't believe I have been caught out with this one as I used to work in the trade and I'm supposed to know about this stuff
So has anyone got any bright ideas on how or whether I can avoid this £95 for 2 minutes work charge from the ford main stealer?
Cheers
Mooky
Our local Timpsons, shoe repairs and key cutting can cut some coded keys, for about half that. Haven't tried them yet as didn't have the key with me. If there is one near you may be worth asking.
that's cheap. Nissan want £ 300!!
you can get key cut at key cutting shops but it is the programming (for alarm/immobilisingingatator) that is the expensive part.
Dealers will tell you its only them that can program keys, but as said, most Timpsons and others can infact do it for a fraction of the cost. Go into your local key cutters and ask.
As said alot of key cutting places with cut it and clone the code from the original key.
Wow - that's good to know! I've only got one key for my Mojo (Ford ECU etc) and always wanted to get a spare but didn't like
Ford's prices.
Now to find somewhere local that does this service... Any ideas Dan?
Ed.
The following worked for my stepdad's 8-9 yr old Mondeo a week or 2 back.
Dealer says it's a dealer only procedure, Autodata says otherwise.
This was for a 2nd hand replacement "3 button" remote with a new key "blade", see pic.
Does your key look anything similar ?
for mondeo key
from autodata:
to reprogram remote:
turn ign to pos II 4 times in 3 secs.
switch off, remove key
clock led should be on, you have 20 secs
single battery key: press any button , led should flash
if you have more keys to program wait two secs and press the button on the
other key
to end turn ign on, wait 20 secs
then try the keys

it's one of these by the way.
I think I might have found a local key cutter who says he can do it for £50-£60

some ford you can programe them on there own, the ka you carnt
Get 2 spare keys cut then hide the original in the column shroud near the ignition switch.
The spare keys should now start the car.

Or Keys R us in Colchester
This is all worth knowing - I have a Ford Focus with 2 keys - but I need a spare for the bloke who runs the car wash where I park next to Manningtree
station Mon - Fri.
I refuse to pay near-enough £100 for a key that will get used once a month when my car gets washed. I don't need the remote bit either - he can
stick the key in the door, as long as it shuts the alarm off. I don't want to leave my 'proper' spare key with him either.
Looks like I'm off to CPW or Felixstowe road on Saturday!
You dont need to tape the key next to the
ign barrel just the transponder out the key
that sits under the little plug in the key
handle and have as many keys cut as you like.
Worked at a Ford main dealer for 10 yr and
know this works well as for security who
knows wats gone on same can be done with
door locks so any key works theres another
story u2u me for details
