Headlight wiring
I have a striker which does not have main beam lights that latch on.
I have a switch that puts sidelights on in position one and sidelights and dip beam in position two.
It also has a momentry switch on the steering wheel that flashes the main beam.
My question is how can I wire it up with the current switch arrangement so that the steering wheel switch flashes when lights are not on but when the
lights are on it turns main beam on and off.
Hope the above all makes sense.
Thanks Matty

Hi Matty,
I think at present, If I understand your situation, you have a light switch driving the dips, and a flash driving the mains. Correct?
So to make it work with a hi/lo selection and keep the flash as is, you will need to add a relay and change the flash switch for a thre position one.
Momentry, center off and On.
The flash stays as is and the On drives a relay which diverts the power from the dips to the mains. The light switch you have will still switch the
lights on/off, reguardless whether you have the mains or dips selected. If you want a cct diag I can sketch one out for you - unless someone comes up
with a better idea.

Yes you have understood my problem.
What I really want to be able to do it use the momentry switch on the steering wheel to flash when lights are off and switch main beam on and off when
the lights are on, is this possible or would I have to change my switch.
Thanks Matty

Hi Matty,
I have just done a search on the good old internet and there is a 12 v latching relay from
thetoolbox.com. This can be used to do what you want.
The switch you have can be used to make the relay changeover. This will happen
every time you flash your lights. If the headlight switch is on, they will swap between main and dip.
You will just have to be careful when you switch your lights on to which beam was last selected.

Will have to take a look at the latching relays.

Hi Matty, how is the research going?
I have been thinking about your challenge.
I have had a further look at the latching relay and have sketched a cct. (with paint - so not brilliant)
I think that your present wiring proberly takes +12v through your 'flash' switch straight
to the hi beam. To make it work with the latching relay, you will have to change that and use a relay
to flash the lights.
Lights Latching relay
I hope this is readable.
