ZX10r Clocks - Stuck Rev Counter (and a new builder).

Hello everyone. I'm new to posting here but I've been checking this forum since deciding to Build a MAC 1 with a zx10R engine. (Heavily influenced by the 'Bigrich'syndrome).

I should be picking up the kit this weekend so lots of happy days ahead.

Managed to get hold of a set of ZX10R clocks (e-bay special) but when they've arrived the rev counter is stuck at 3000rpm. As I can't really test them on the car yet can anyone tell me if this is just a minor problem or a major issue?

I've attached a picture but if its not there its also in my photo archive.

Have you tried tapping it lightly with a hammer, seriously often gauges will just free themselves

One other thing that comes to mind is it came from a crashed bike and that the engine speed it was doing at the time, which might indicate the gauge is damaged internally from the impact

Not tried tapping it with a hammer (yet). The pic on ebay showed it connected up and with the needle sat at 0rpm

I've got a copy of the 10r service manual so might try connecting it up and putting power through it to see if it resets (hopefully).

don't trust pictures on computers when buying stuff, they are far too easy to alter

It will be fine. If you kill the power to the clocks the needle just stays where it is at the time.

I am sure when you connect it to power it will do its checks and return to zero...

Yes my zx10r clocks when they arrived were at around 6000 rpm,as soon as you connect them they go into a sweep mode up to max rev's,then back down to zero.
In transit they can move,if you give it a shake you will be able to make it go to a higher reading, but it will not return until power is connected

Tried the shaking thing and yes, now at 8000 rpm.

Happier now (and going considerably faster!!)

If they don't reset when you power the clocks up, just set the tickover at whatever RPM the clocks are stuck on. No-one will ever notice.

Put power up to the clocks last night and they reset back to 0rpm
