OT - tigra x16xe wiring plugs
indykid - 22/7/08 at 07:02 PM

i'm fitting an x16xe to my mk2 cavalier.

i'm struggling to identify some wiring plugs. anyone know? anyone have a tigra 1.6 that they can have a look in the engine bay of?

have a look at this thread on migweb and let me know if you can help.

cheers,
tom

This brings back bad memories of last summer and SWMBOs 97 1.6 Tigra head gasket.

I have found the green one, I think.

eeek. so where the hell's my map sensor?

would have made so much more sense to have bought a donor but you can't get a donor for the price of an engine.

i shall have a proper look tomorrow and see what's tucked in behind the inlet.

looking less and less likely it'll be in for friday tho.

just had a dig through my photos. would the map sensor be mounted on the bulkhead? looks like the double headed arrow on this pic might be it.

also, any chance you'd know where the other vac pipes should be connected?

cheers thus far rich

oooh, that's a good pic mansfield.

any chance you'd be able to shed some light on where the other vacuum lines go?

it looks like you have plastic lines running from both of them.

scrub the fuel vent valve, i suspect its a control solenoid for the secondary air system connection, Vent valve is the red/blue plug in Mansfields piccy

Welcome to the jungle of pipes and wires, I have number of pictures throughout the strip down and rebuild. Maybe I have some that are of use to you. Sod's Law usually dictates the one you want is the one I dont have, but the car is on the drive and all is connected so maybe I can help that way.

Be patient with the pictures, I never remember to upload them before typing the message.

it's finally clicked. thanks so much chaps.

the shiny plastic line that runs to the red and blue valve is the fuel tank vent, so i can block that off. it's bad enough having to run a return line so sod the vent.

the vac line off the servo hose runs round to the egr valve so since i'm not running the air injection pump, i can block that too. the two electrical connections for it can get tucked back into the loom.

finally, the map sensor. i was sold the engine as a complete set up but obviously there's complete and there's complete. trip to the scrappy tomorrow it is since i also need the downpipe and loom for the key transponder.

thanks again,
tom

*tut*.. you know you want a Red-top really

Give me a yell if you need any more pictures, would be happy to help.

Interesting choice of engine, are you using the Tigra inlet system? To me the Tigra is crying out for bike throttle bodies to tidy up all the manifold and air filter to throttle body plastic, you can barely work on the back side of the engine with the standard set up. More room in a Cavalier I guess though.

Best of luck.

my dad's on with that one at the minute and it's a right ball ache. everything seems to be throwing up problems.

have you got the early distributor one or the distributorless one? we've got to the wiring and drawn a blank because nothing matches any existing wisdom but tbh, i think it's my dad's poor googling.

it'll all come good in the end despite losing garage facilities at the end of next week.

cheers mansfield.

i am using the tigra inlet but it's not a performance mod, more a practicality mod. the weber carb on the 20 year old 8valve engine in it atm does 20 to the gallon and i can't afford to go anywhere i don't need to.

i believe the x16xe should be able to do 35+mpg and keeps everything vauxhall in a low milage modern classic.

it's only a 1600 shell so doesn't have half the bracing the 1800 and 2litre injected ones did. a c20xe's a bit much for the running gear i think. the bay's narrower than mk3s and later stuff so it may be tight on the aux belt but we'll get by.

i'm interested to see what it goes like when it's done though.
