MNR loom and rear lights
finlay - 18/7/08 at 02:11 PM

hi all

with regards my MNR rear lights and loom

i have fitted all connectors on to my loom but havent fitted the plastic connector housings yet as i wanted to test the rear lights out first by just pushing on the clips on to each of the light terminals,

this is what the instructions show the colours on the near side as

black - earth
red black - N/S side lights x 2 wires in the same bullet
green purple - N/S stop lights
Green Red - N/S indicators

this is what the instructions show the colours on the offside as

black - earth
red white - O/S side lights x 1 wire
green purple - O/S stop lights
green white - O/S indicators

on the passenger side light cluster i have red/white going into what would be port 3 if i had fitted the plastic connector housing, earth into port 2 and green purple into port 1

and on driver side i have green purple into port 1, earth into port 2 and red/black into port 3

this combo gives me a bright stop light when i apply the brakes and a dim side light

if i swap the wires on port 3 and 1 around i get the opposite, a dim stop light and a bright side light

what combo should i use ?

also my indicators work fine both seem a strong bright signal

any feed back would be much appriciated

cheers

Finlay

be careful here as one of my brake lights showed the earth wires on the wrong side

Brake light feed is in centre of the 3 prong connectors
easy to check with a big stick to hold pedal down etc or get a mate

Hi
pic is of nearside
offside i had to bodge a bit until i found the problem.
but in short, the green purple is in middle block, 2 red/black in same connector to one side
black on other

also my nearside is 2 core one which goes to the 3rd high level one

offside
i have black on one side
single dual colour in middle and others on other end

the best way to sort it is to get a mate to keep power to ignition so brake circuit will work and then bare the ends of the brake feed wire and earth only and put the brake on the centre terminal and the earth to both ends to see which gives brightest light
then touch the side wire to remaining side and turn the lights on

youll need to do the same for other side otherwise you'll get caught out like i did

take wheels off for ease or remove the bulb block bit

if your really up to it then an ammeter will do same job but i did it manually in the end. Rescued attachment 2008_0718Image0044.JPG
