Well it has been a good day and a bad day
Good day......
I eventually got the nissan micra alternator wired, the new fan belt on, the battery connected and the car fired up
no fire and the alternator works well
the new EDGE starter motor works a treat
did a colour tune and the car runs better than it did before, not perfect but better.
Now the bad day
the only thing the car failed it's SVA on last time was the Speedo. i moved the sender unit forward nearer the magnets and tightened the bolts
up.
went up the road and the speedo was working
came back down the road and it stopped
i looked in the tunnel and the sender has snapped in two
the bracket is un marked the nuts were on both parts
i dont know if the prop caught it, but i dont see how it could,
or
if i over tightened the nuts and it just snapped
whats the most likley cause?
i've ordered another but at 40 quid i dont want to ruin another.

I overtightened my sender when fitting and that snapped also, didn't take much. I was much more careful with the second and added spring washers so I didnt need to tighten too much and was happy that it wouldnt shake loose.
Exactly the same happen to me as well.
Was well careful putting the second one on
Leigh
Glad its not just me that broke it tightening it up!
Nearly six years and this is the first time I've told anybody Not that I was keeping it quite or anything

Where abouts have you mounted the sensor?
Mine was halfway down the prop on my Avon and I went through 2 before realising how much the prop moved in all directions.
Mount it at the back on the diff flange if possible.

Put a drop of threadlock on the sensor threads to make sure they don't rattle loose - they snap quite easily ..... but you know that now

Magnets on the diff flange for me, sensor fitted to a small ladder bracket i stole from the side of the house.
Rescued attachment MK Indy build pics 161.jpg
Mounted the magnets to the diff end prop flange and mounted the sensor on a bracket braced and bolted to the diff cradle. There is no movement relative to the sensor at this point and i can change diffs and just reprogram the speedo
I was just thinking that location was important.
i have put it halfway along the propshaft near the hand brake, but i was in the bath thinking and it came to me that the diff is mounted solid and i
should put the sensor back there.
many thanks lads

That's the same problem I had on the Avon.
I mounted it halfway along the prop and you'd be suprised how much the prop moves.
I broke my 1st sensor as I was putting my car on the trailer for SVA!
Get it moved to the back and you'll be fine.
