AAAAARRGGHHH !!! zx9r wiring!
cossiebri - 13/4/07 at 05:08 PM

Need some help lads,
I've got another wiring loom, all plugged in
Have jumped the brown ign switch wire into the white,& the white into the grey(with a resistor),Have earthed out the sidestand/clutch wire (green/black from fusebox) yet still wont start have got ign on (neutral &oil lights) turns over but not firing.
Have any of the start/stopwires got to be bridged/earthed.
Or could someone explain from the start, what goes where and what needs to cut??
Cheers

have you checked the run/stop switch?,

tip over switch? (not sure if it has one)

are you getting a spark at the plugs?

Ray

coozer - 13/4/07 at 05:49 PM

Hers my wiring diagram that did worked for me. I used the original Kwak ign switch to make sure it worked.

roadrunner - 13/4/07 at 06:04 PM

Hi cossiebri, i'm doing my wiring at the mo, have you used the zx ignition switch, or your original ignition wire, if so where does the white ignition wire from the car loom go, i have'nt a clue.

cossiebri - 13/4/07 at 06:17 PM

I'm using the standard (car) ign,
Yellow/red from starter relay(bike) to ign starter wire on car ign
brown ign wire to switched live,i.e acc on, on car ign
grey to white with 100 ohm resistor on ign wiring block (bike)

Am not using run/stop switch so do i bridge them/earth them?

as above for sidestand switch

everything lights up,turns over but no spark

earth the side stand wire
join the run switch wires together so the coils power up brown/white to red if its the same as my zx10

I say coozer, i cant veiw your wiring diagram, my PC dose'nt recognize the format.

bigrich - 13/4/07 at 06:53 PM

the grey should be on the brown wire not the white so the ecu see's ignition 12volts and resisted 12volts at the same time when the ignitions turned on
give it a try
Rich

Run stop switch is brown/white and a red which needs to be bridged but it would not turn over if this was out. I think the clutch switch needs to be done as it will cut your spark unless you are in neutral and will stop you getting into gear with the engine running Rescued attachment ZX-9R Ecutouts.jpg

I tried with same result Bri. I've been searching for ages on it and I did come across a couple of posts that suggest the wattage of the resisitor matters. Think it said 1.5 watts? Was somewhere on this site and the geek at Maplins agrees that this matters, in fact he wouldn't give me any resistor at first as he said just guessing wouldn't work. Damn those nerds! (Jealousy!)

roadrunner - 13/4/07 at 07:53 PM

With the run/stop switch, do you ignore the stop switch and just splice the two start switch wires together, or do the same yo the stop switch wires.
PS sorry for piggy backing.
Brad

What was your solution?
I'm using a 100ohm resistor that was fitted in the old wiring loom

The red feeds the start &stop switch-bridge this with the brown&white.
Hows your build coming on?

Wahaay! 250 posts--senior builder-not!

The solution was to use a swear word! Adapting your language to suit! Resistor didn't work so after scouring the search forum I've got a couple of 1.5 watt ones still sat in the car though. As a side thing, I found that my starter relay was stuffed and not letting the voltage past. Maybe worth checking with the multi meter

cossiebri - 13/4/07 at 08:45 PM

Ok will try again tomorrow...
not going back out the garage now, need a few pints of the black stuuf to unwind.
Been out the back all bloody day without any bother, shut the doors to go & have me tea and some moron(s) set fire to a 55 plate moped,
At least the fire service only took a couple of mins to attend

JoelP - 13/4/07 at 09:31 PM

bri, you should've let sleeping dogs lie

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/zx9rC%20wiring1small.jpg

heres the diagram in my archive, i'll not post it here as its massive. Cant remember what i did to be honest, rather annoyingly i have to wire my new one soon

roadrunner - 13/4/07 at 09:55 PM

Not to bad thanks Bri, picking up my manifold next weekend together with my new bonnet and prop adapted.
Just this wiring to sort and the plumbing and the gear linkage, how have you done yours Bri.

cossiebri - 13/4/07 at 10:10 PM

Everything apart from the bloody wiring!
got lovely new carbon fibrecycle wings/stoneguards, sorted my seats, sprayed my wheels, etc etc, just want to drive it nowthe weathers nice!

I'll take some photo's of the plumbing if you get stuck

I know!the missus said something similar
I'm using that wiring diagram

cossiebri - 15/4/07 at 06:54 PM

BTTT.
Ideas anyone? from scratch ?

cossiebri - 16/4/07 at 06:36 PM

Got a new ic ignitor, still no spark.
tested the pick up coil, thats fine,
pleeeaaasssee someone help me!!!

roadrunner - 16/4/07 at 08:10 PM

have you checked your earths.

cossiebri - 17/4/07 at 03:01 PM

Where from? & where to?
how many??

Colnago_Man - 18/4/07 at 08:22 AM

The main engine earth point on your engine should be next to the oil breather pipe on top of the gear box casing. It may just look like a tapped hole if its not being used at the minute. I would take a -ve lead to this straight from the battery from here. Although if your engine is turning over I'am not sure if earthing is your main problem.

cossiebri - 19/4/07 at 08:14 PM

Checked all the earth's no probs there.
Just ordered a new pulsing coil, been told by a bikeshop 'leccy' they are fragile and prone to breaking down. Not to bad only £35+vat new, Just another piece in the puzzle???

roadrunner - 20/4/07 at 11:26 AM

Well, any luck yet, by the way did you bridge the clutch switch, i have done on mine, but have'nt tried it yet.
Brad.

cossiebri - 20/4/07 at 02:47 PM

Part on back-order
If it wasn't for bad luck i'd have none at all
Yes bridged the clutch switch(another way to do it is earth the green/black wire that goes from cdi to junction box)this also defeats sidestand switch

cossiebri - 25/4/07 at 05:20 PM

Replaced the pulsing coil, and NOTHING Really getting annoyed now, still no spark
Ideas anyone, anyone want to have a look?

JoelP - 25/4/07 at 06:05 PM

im devastated for you bri, wish i was closer to have a look at it All i can suggest is start at the top, read the diagram and follow every wire. I bet its a simple oversight or a loose connection. You sure the cdi isnt cooked?

cossiebri - 25/4/07 at 06:25 PM

I managed to get another cdi, also replaced the wiring harness. Needs some fresh ideas?

roadrunner - 25/4/07 at 08:59 PM

what about the starter relay, or any fuses, bike and car looms, do you have the zx9r wiring diagram.
