Im struggling to interpret my R1 wiring diagram.

I have a few questions (yes probably very basic but bear with me!)

1. Why do you have switched earths and switched live feeds?

2. How can i identify a switched earth and a switched live on my diagram?

3. What are the black dots where some wires meet on the wiring diagram below?

4. There are some predominantly black wires with different coloured traces on them on the diagram for example the black wire with yellow at the clutch switch top left, is this an earth even though its not straight black?

5. The same goes for the red wires, for example red and green from the instruments and red and white from the ignition fuse?

Not sure about the bike colours, but if the earth colour is black then its likely any black with a clourer trace is a switched live.

Basically the difference between a switched live and switched earth depends on where the switch is, if its on the earth side of the bulb say it would be a switched earth, if its in the live feed it would be a switched live.

The most common switched earth stuff on a car is the brake warning light system of which i have a diagram if you need it.

The black dots on the diagram are where the wires are joined together where they cross/meet.

The Earth lines are the Black lines, the coloured lines are live lines (+) if the powered item has a switched earth, the item will have a permanent live and will be switched on by giving it an earth via a switch, if the item is switched live, then the earth will be a perm wire, and the live will be via the switch

If you look at the top part of Flaks picture you can see it says Earth, just to the right of the headlight bulbs, that wire is Black and so should all the earth cables on the whole loom

the black dots are joins. Find all the earth symbols on the diagram and follow wires back. I did this with the zx9 diagrams, after a few attempts it all made sense.

if so ignore them, they are still earth wires.
