Are they still making those things. I used to run one on my old mk1 fiesta in my student days - too many years ago to mention
To clarify what they are, they are just ignition amplifiers. You still have to retain your points. The idea is that rather than the points triggering
the coil directly, the points just tigger the amp, which in turn triggers the coil with a transistor. Makes for cleaner sparks and longer life for the
points. Don't think it matters what voltage the coil is.
Hope that helps?

Pretty useless IMHO, I had one that i used on my Land Rover, it made no apparent difference to operation of ignition and eventually the thing blew up
its internal components!

I'd say ditch the points, there are plenty electronic kits for the X-flow's - Webber, Luminiton, Megajolt, etc......
yes they are, but they will set you back typically £ 150 vs £ 10 for the maplins.
I have one fitted. Took about 1/2 hour to build, it will fit inside an AB12 box but the box needs a bit of trimming. I used thick copper wire from the board and soldered on spade terminals; this allows the original wires to be used.
Reason for fitting?
Space if very tight under my twin dellorto carbs/1300 crossflow so I don't want to be messing with the gap/timing hence fitting this.
here is one I made earlier:
and fitted.
