webcon alpha gear shift lamp

Hi
I have a I4 duratec with webcon alpha engine management and raceline throttle bodies.
The wiring loom has a connection for a gear shift lamp, it is a purple and white wire with a female spade.
Has anyone got any info on wiring for the lamp (not supplied with the kit) and what sort of lamp or neon can be used? also if the connection is pos or neg and weather any resistors are required.
Webcon will supply a kit with lamp and fixings but this probably involves paying a small fortune for a neon and a bit of wire

You'll find that the engine management system will earth that terminal when the shift point is reached. You will need a low power lamp or LED which has a permanent live feed and the earth side connected to your terminal.

I used one of these with the orange lamp wired in as the oil pressure warning lamp and the green as the shift lamp. You wil need a couple of resistors.

I like the idea of the twin LED's with one as oil pressure and one as gear shift
Any idea what size resistor? is the resistor wired in series or parallel with the LED's?
Is the ecu pre-set to bring the shift light on just b4 the rev limiter?

Thanks for the diagram, looks straight forward
yellow being a poss feed ( I'll take that from the supply to the ECU )
red and green are switched negatives, red from the oil switch and the green from the purple and white on my ECU,
If you find anything out about resistors I'd appreciate it Thanks
Do I definatley need resistors? with the LED being 12v?

Yes - you read my diagram right! I'd use resistor as they are so cheap and easy to fit that I wouldn't waste time 'blowing' LED's. I've used these units on a couple of cars and fitted resistors - ultra reliable!

Assuming battery voltage of around 13.2 volts

Resistor for red = 90 Ohms
Resistor for green = 80 Ohms

In the past, I've soldered these in, covered them with heat shrink and then cable tied them to the steering column to stop them bending about and breaking.

Are the resistors connected in series on the negative, ie where the green and red boxes are on the diagram?
I picked up the LED today, I can soon pick up some resistors and I'll be sorted
