Probably in the wrong place. I want to utilise parts of the standard sierra clocks. Mainly the Speedo and rev counter.
Im running type 9, live axle and 15's. I think my axle is 3.89.

Do you reckon this will be miles out? Or shall i just junk this idea and buy and electronic job. Im skint as so im trying to avoid spending money on bits i can avoid.

I spoke to a knowledgable guy at ford today and he recons any ford speedo will work with any ford gearbox (non electronic ). ive decided to use escort mk5 clocks with type 9 box. He says as long as the wheel/tyre diameters are the same it should be ok. however this could be complete rubbish

There are a few different worm drives for the gearbox output shaft.

When my speedo went and I found it was this rattling up and down the output shaft and not driving the gear I had a choice of about 5 different ones from the ford dealer.

Dave I have used the ford unit, in an effort to keep the cost down, (joke). The thing is that if it proves to be inacurate, you can have it recalibrated, Speedy Cables do it. I went the whole hog and just cut the front of the housing and used the whole thing. I will try to attach picture.

Try this

=SUM((H20/25.4*I20/100*2)+J20)

H20 is the width in mm
I20 is the profile
J20 is the diameter in inches

eg H20/I20/j20 = 185/60/13

Most sierra's seem to run 3.89 diffs, just check your rolling diameter against what the sierra had
