zetec starter
Matt159888 - 31/7/14 at 11:59 PM

Hi gang operation zetec has begun to replace my pinto powered tiger with a zetec. I am replacing bits as I go and are looking at a flywheel to accept the pinto clutch. I like the retro ford one but my question is which ones are you guys using and what starter matches them. I can't figure out what starter works with what.thanks in advance guys Matt

According to westfield info a zetec to type 9 is a lucas lrs543
Thats the one with the small housing so it doesnt foul the sump
Think its off a sierra cvh

If you want a new one I found THIS the most cost effective. search QS1221

You will still have some sump modding to do though if its a blacktop sump.

Escort zetec 1.8 flywheel with a starter from a DOHC or 1.8 cvh Sierra.

If using the 1.8 silvertop flywheel its the LRS707 (or equivalents) - some are narrower so wont need the sump mods:

Cheap mod alert
If you want to be really clever fit a late escort efi flywheel- they have the trigger for crank sensor on the back
Its the same diameter and bolt patterns , just drill the crank bolt holes from 10-11mm
Zetec fw is nearly 10kg - cvh is about 6kg
Lighter than most " lightened" ones and i paid a tenner for mine
Same starter
Picks up like a bike

19sac65 is spot on - I have the same except mine is a 1.8 cvh flywheel with no crank sensor holes so I had to fit a front trigger wheel.

I was looking at the retro Ford light flywheel drilled for pinto clutch. But seems unclear which starter I would use. As far as I know the zetec starter doesnt fit the type 9 box?. So would it be a pinto or is the one lrs 543 the answer . Dont want to waste money and want to do it right first time if you know what I mean .the motor is a 2.0 silver top thanks Matt

I have asked them and others they seem but gauge.they seem to want you to buy their bell housings too although I was going to keep the standard cast one. Just thought would see if you guys had used them and if so what you were using with them. Got a few ideas now to think about too lol . Kit cars gotta love em
